Then take your lucky self to this green and handsome Limburg site, close to the recreational lake of Drakenrijk and in a flat and peaceful landscape to contentedly cycle and ramble in for hours. Nature reserves border the site for hours' worth of gentle wildlife watching, and the mighty Meuse or Maas river meanders nearby for waterside walks and adrenalised watersports.
City sorts and nightclubbers are sorted too as sightseeing and shops are niftily reached from here: the towns of Beesel, Swalmen and Reuver are all within 10 minutes' drive, Roermond and Venlo are within 20, and Eindhoven is under an hour. If you care to venture further, you can cross the border into Germany and be at Essen in an hour and five minutes, or stay within the splendid Netherlands to reach Rotterdam in two hours and Amsterdam in two and a quarter.
Camping Petrushoeve is a laidback and quiet pet-free place, in a wooded area on the border of north and central Limburg. It's edged by the birdwatching haven and nature reserve of Meerlebroek, the reserve of Brachter Wald (the eastern entrance to Beesel from Germany) and the Pieterpad long-distance hiking trail, running for 495 kilometres from Pieterburen to the top of Mount Saint Peter just outside Maastricht.
Amenities are excellent at this rural spot: the modern shower and toilet block has a baby bath and a kids' shower; several water points are around the accommodation area, and wifi is available throughout. Among the leisure facilities are a centrally-set playground, an indoor play area and a library; bike hire, cycling and walking maps, and snacks including pizza, ice cream, sandwiches and croissants are available at reception.
The site also has a bike shed (locked at night), with charging points for your electrical bits and bobs.

The car-free nature reserve of the Brachter Wald edging the site has walking, cycling, Nordic walking and horse riding trails snaking through its handsome setting, as well as rare animals and plants flourishing on its heath. If you're dithering about where to start, book a guided cycling tours bookable via the tourist information centre of Beesel/Reuver.
The Camping Petrushoeve team has developed eight walking routes around the site, covering over 63 kilometres around the region's varied landscapes. Seven of the trails start directly from the grounds, with the eighth beginning from the market at Beesel.
Family days aplenty are in the area too: have days out at Avonturenpark Valdeludo or Parkplatz Zoo, both 20 minutes, or the theme parks of Toverland and Irrland, 25 and 40 minutes away.
