Lots of walking trails crisscross the local countryside, and there’s a network of 150 kilometres of mountain biking trails around too. Elsewhere, the Gorges de Pennafort are less than 10 minutes’ drive away (or 25 minutes’ bike ride) and an excellent option for scenic walks, cooling swims and waterside picnics. Further afield are the famed Gorges du Verdon – oft hailed as one of Europe's most handsome – where kayaking, canoeing and rafting are popular, and you can book in to drift peacefully over the waters in a hot air balloon locally there too. For coastal days, it’ll take you less than 40 minutes to drive to the ancient Roman city of Frejus on the Mediterranean coast: there’s heaps to do here for all, including Aqualand waterpark and its toboggan slides. For cultured days, the city is filled with spectacular ancient monuments, including a Gallic amphitheatre (one of the largest of its time), as well as a Roman theatre, ruined Roman baths and the Porte des Gaules aqueduct. Should you be seeking somewhere slightly swankier along the coast, Saint-Tropez, Cannes and Antibes are all around an hour away along the French Riviera.
