‘The island of lunar landscapes’, they call it – so it won't surprise you to hear that Pag's a fine place for a walk or few. Stroll through the ancient olive groves in Lun, 15 minutes' drive away at the northern tip of the island, and see if you can spot the oldest olive tree – it’s been standing around for a mere 1,600 years. Looking rather further afield, a two-hour car and ferry journey from Lun gets you back over to the mainland where you can visit Zavratnica Nature Park or stroll around the walled medieval town of Rab with its bell towers. Sporty types should be all set for active times on the island, maybe cycling directly from the resort for fine views of sparkling bays, steep cliffs and lush pastures – there are on and off-road trails to suit all levels. Divers can head out into underwater reefs and shipwrecks, while newbies can learn the skills needed to get them down there on courses nearby. Bungee jumping, kitesurfing, flyboarding, tennis and beachside paintball fights are also options, or you may like to hop on a boat at Novalja (10 minutes' drive) for family-friendly meanders or evening party cruises.
