Private access to a three-mile sandy beach sound tempting? That's the fabulous feature you’ll get at St Ives Bay Holiday Park, set on sand dunes five minutes’ drive from Hayle in Cornwall. If you’re all piling in for a family holiday, you can spend days building sandcastles, running around on the beach with the kids and cooling off in the sea. Travelling as a couple? You’ll have spectacular sea views across St Ives Bay and you’re almost guaranteed colourful sunsets as a backdrop for romantic twilight strolls on the sand. And when kicking back and enjoying the views is not quite enough for you (and, let’s face it, the kids will want more), how about crazy golf, tennis or the amusement arcades? You can burn off more energy at the surf school or in the heated indoor swimming pool, and there are play areas scattered around the park to wear the kids out properly. With all this going on, make sure you leave time to unwind for a drink at the terrace bar with superb views over the bay and a menu of small, tapas-style snacks – there’s entertainment in the evenings too. Or you may like to make a night of it with the family over a freshly prepared meal at Sands Bistro? Forgotten an important ingredient or need milk for your morning cuppa? There’s a well-stocked independent shop on site that stocks all the essentials, including your daily newspaper.

Likte: We were right by the beach! Showers, toilets and wash-up area was close, clean and easy to use. We had a good amount of space and things to do around the actual park as well as drive to what we wanted. Could hear the sea as we slept.

Likte ikke: Unless you go to the pub area, signal was really bad there.

Likte: Very spacious pitch.very well maintained. Friendly staff. Very clean toilets and showers

Likte ikke: If I had to be picky you can only get WiFi in the club house and bar. The club house didn't open until the evening and the bar was quite a distance from our pitch. Not the end of the world though 👍

Likte: We could pick our own pitches so were able to pitch up beside friends. The site, toilets & Showers were clean. Beach was walking distance over the sand dunes, children were able to go off and play on the dunes. We were allowed to use bbqs etc on the pitches. The children were able to play in the pool for as long as they wanted.

Likte: Location is absolutely brilliant. Very quick walk to an amazing beach, also quick drive to St Ives or Lands End.

Likte ikke: Tent pitches were a bit small not giving enough space. Cleanliness in shower blocks was quite poor. I saw a male cleaner using just a cloth to clean all sinks.

Likte: Great friendly staff both at check in and site manager who came over. Clean toilet block

Likte ikke: Not enough pitches so had to squeeze between two. Site manager couldn’t understand why there was too many for the allocation despite querying it with reception.

Likte: The overall feeling of the campsite was really nice... friendly and kind staff who were very helpful, clean overall with good, hot showers and washing up facilities and loads of activities and facilities. Good signage and explanation of what is going on and close to lovely places to go.

Likte ikke: Not sure I am a fan of not having a pre-allocated plot. It means you could book way in advance and because you had a long way to travel and couldn't do so overnight you would never have a chance of getting a place on the bit that overlooks the sea. You also need a better system for the pool or when it is busy. Just counting heads was a bit hap hazard. Giving out the maximum number of bands and then taking them as people leave works in other places. More staff are needed at peak times in the bistro.

Likte: Great site with plenty of facilities, had dinner and breakfast at the bistro, food was good and dogs allowed and made to feel welcome and not a burden unlike some other ‘dog friendly sites’ bus stop just down the road to get into st Ives if needed. Great location

Likte ikke: Toilet/shower blocks abit unkept but was a busy couple of nights we stayed so possibly just hard to keep up with the traffic

When you can prise the kids away from the beach, chances are they may demand to be taken to Flambards Theme Park (25 minutes’ drive) to explore the Victorian Village and experience Britain in the Blitz, run riot on the thrill rides and dig for fossils at Dino Dig. For a sneaky lesson in Cornish history, spend time on the immersive Dark Walk at Bodmin Jail Attraction (50 minutes) and take a look around the dank prison cells, or travel back to Tudor times with Elizabethan-themed workshops at National Trust-owned Trerice (40 minutes). Come right back up to date with a tour of the masterpiece works of contemporary art at Tate St Ives (20 minutes). If it’s animal-related activities you’re after, meet rescue owls at the Screech Owl Sanctuary (40 minutes), or feed the seals at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (half an hour). Take an underground safari to see sharks and colourful shoals of tropical fish at Blue Reef Aquarium Newquay (40 minutes), and see big cats in spacious enclosures at Newquay Zoo (35 minutes).
