Voeg je bedrijfsgegevens toeThose who value seclusion above all else while on holiday would be advised to make a beeline for Thunder Mountain Camp, a 100-acre site on the fringes of Ouachita National Forest, in western Arkansas. What this place has in spades is sublime seclusion – with bells on: the owners welcome just two visitors at any one time (plus their four-legged companions), which makes this a top spot for a romantic break.
You can set up anywhere here: in the pine forest, on any of the three levels of decking or right by the water. A gorgeous river runs through the property, and you don’t have to worry about packing your watersports equipment: kayaks, tubes and a paddle boat are all available for guests. Swimsuits may be optional. And with four miles of blissfully private trails, hiking without clothes may be optional too. However, if you do, it would be wise to keep a towel handy and to avoid the edges of the property.
The site comes with an outdoor bathhouse with spectacular views of the river and the Ouachita Mountains, which you can soak up while soaking in the antique bathtub. (For a burst of energy in the morning, there’s also a shower.) A separate outhouse has a flushing toilet.
Fix yourselves something to eat on the grill on the decking (where there’s also a picnic table with benches), or head to Glenwood (10 minutes’ drive) for assorted global restaurants, fast-food joints and cafés.
