Up for sporting adventures on Elba? How about booking in at Elba Travels, located beachside 10 minutes’ drive from the brightly coloured cottages of hilltop Capoliveri? At the site, you can sail, kayak, snorkel or paddleboard to your heart’s content, either under expert tutelage or going it alone, and then climb onto a mountain bike and pedal off into the hills.
But of course you can also choose to relax on the beach and not move – your choice on your holiday. Whatever you decide, your accommodation is in spacious safari tents sleeping up to five guests in a mix of double, single and bunk beds. Each one has a kitchen where you can knock up family meals, and outside there’s a private terrace with a table and comfy chairs. The shower block is a mere few paces away, with hot water, washing machines and a dishwashing area.
During high season, the restaurant serves up evening meals – pizza or pasta, anyone? If you fancy a drink, the bar is always open during the day, and there’s a licensed shop on site for stocking up on barbecue goodies. You can also cook simple meals in the shared kitchen.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden
There’s enough going on at Elba Travels to keep you busy for weeks. You can sail along the indented coastline, go kayaking or windsurfing, fasten on a snorkel and swim over a shipwreck, or go cliff jumping (perhaps one for the braver souls). On dry land there are facilities for guided mountain-biking and hiking expeditions too.
After all that exertion, you could be forgiven for heading to the beach and having a snooze in the sun. Stick to Morcone Beach (accessed from the site), or for a bit more seaside action, make for Barbarossa (20 minutes’ drive), a small and popular cove backed with few restaurants and bars.
To see something of Elba’s cultural heritage, try historic Portoferraio (half an hour), where you can have a wander up to the castle and potter around cobbled streets lined with pastel-coloured houses. You might also like to drive up to the hilltop Santuario della Madonna di Monserrato (25 minutes) for views over the valley to the Tyrrhenian Sea, and on the return journey, hit Capoliveri (10 minutes) for a a glass of something chilled at sunset.
