Azienda Agricola Veldidonna

You have lots of hiking choices at Azienda Agricola Veldidonna; Monti di Aggius (10 minutes’ drive) has easy meadows to traverse as well as technical climbing over granite boulders. The kids can have a runaround in the shaded Parco Fonte Nuova (also 10 minutes), or you can walk up to the San Gavino viewpoint (half an hour) for vistas over undulating hills to the Med. Talking of the Med, the nearest beach is at quiet Li Feruli (half an hour), where there’s a small bar. Other coastal options include Spiaggia di Cala Canneddi (35 minutes) – take waterproof shoes for navigating the pebble seabed as you swim out to the distinctive granite rock formations just offshore. There’s lots of cultural stuff to do too. The 3,500-year-old fortress at Nuraghe Majore (five minutes) is surrounded by greenery and today plays host to a protected colony of pipistrelle bats. There’s a bizarre ‘rock house’ built into a granite boulder at Monte Pulchiana, while the village of Aggius (both 10 minutes) has cute cobbled alleys to explore and is known for the making of ornate carpets.
