Squeezed between forested Monte Sant’Angelo to the west and the medieval hilltop town of Arcevia (five minutes’ drive) to the east, Mulino Tomassoni sits where the gentle reliefs of the Marche landscape start to turn into the more rugged Apennines.
This peaceful, remote site stretches across two hectares of land within the Regional Natural Park of the Gola della Rossa e di Frasassi, which hikers will likely be keen to explore at the earliest opportunity, climbing up to the Monte della Croce (10 minutes) for spectacular views of the mountains, or to the narrow gorge at Forra della Valle Scappuccia (20 minutes).
Back on site after a day in your hiking boots, you might want to soothe your aching limbs in the sauna (followed by an invigorating cold plunge) or arrange for a massage. There’s a toilet/shower block, but if you prefer to have a soak, a bathtub is also available.
Parents are well catered for, with a paddling pool for toddlers and a baby-changing room (plus a launderette). The on-site shop sells locally grown produce, which you can store in the communal fridge freezer until it’s time to start up the barbecue (provided). You can then devour the fruits of your cooking labour on the covered terrace while taking in the views of the surrounding woodland. And on those evenings when you just can’t be bothered with tending to the coals, there are plenty of dining establishments in Arcevia.

Op deze camping zijn hondenrassen/kruisingen die in de 'lijst met hoog-risico honden op agressief gedrag' zijn opgenomen, niet toegestaan (zoals de pitbullterriër, tosa, Argentijnse dog en fila brasileiro). Ook de volgende rassen zijn niet welkom: de staffordshire-bulterriër, Amerikaanse staffordshireterriër, rottweiler en mastiff.- Minstens één lid van het gezelschap dient 18 of ouder te zijn.

Grab a cardigan when you pay a visit to the Grotte di Frasassi (25 minutes’ drive): it gets pretty fresh (about 14°C) in this vast complex of underground caverns lined with spectacular rock and crystal formations. A short drive away is the Tempio del Valadier, a small 19th-century shrine built within a rocky cave.
You’re in a renowned wine-making area here, with hectares of vineyards growing grapes for white Verdicchio and red Lacrima wines. Within a half-hour drive, there are several wineries that arrange tastings and cellar visits.
When you fancy a day at the seaside, head to Senigallia (40 minutes) whose beach is known as the ‘velvet beach’ on account of its fine golden sand. Stroll along the seafront and the working harbour, or head into the town centre to visit the Rocca Roveresca fortress – and to see and be seen along the pedestrianised Corso II Giugno, lined with elegant shops.
