It’s all about the location at this Calabria park – and what a location it is, too. Ipanema Family Club is right on the seafront between Diamante and Cirella, with direct access to a sandy beach for swims, strolls, picnics and playtime whenever you like. This is a family friendly site, but if you're after pools, sports facilities, kids’ activities and other facilities you’ll need to look elsewhere. Things have been kept splendidly simple here, allowing guests to relax among the trees in a peaceful seaside setting. And although there are no organised activities laid on, you’re very unlikely to get bored, as this location makes a great base for hikes, cycling trails, watersports, boat trips and visits to the villages along the Riviera Dei Cedri. There may be no entertainment, but essential facilities are all in place at this site – guests have access to toilets and showers (including wheelchair-accessible bathrooms), a chemical disposal point, a washing-up area and a barbecue area for outdoor cooking. A supermarket is about 10 minutes' walk away for your barbecue/picnic supplies and there are a few restaurants and bars within walking distance too. For more restaurants and shops it's about a 10-minute drive to Diamante – and you should find plenty of tasty things there, as the town is know for its wine and its chilli peppers (there’s a peperoncino festival held here each year for true chilli enthusiasts…).

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

It's quite possible that you won’t make it any further than the beach by the site – and surely no one would blame you for that, as it's a lovely stretch of sand with clear water to swim or paddle in. If you’re feeling a little adventurous, you can swim, kayak or paddleboard over to Isola di Cirella, a nature reserve island about 600 metres off the shore. Take a snorkel if you can, because the underwater views are just as good as those on land. If that sounds a little active, you can instead join a boat trip along the coast from Diamante (10 minutes’ drive). While you're in town you may also like to visit the historical centre and look out for the street art adorning the walls. Elsewhere nearby, visit the Ruins of Cidella (five minutes), have a tour and a taste at Museo del Cedro (10 minutes), take a cool waterfall walk at Cascata Il Vuglio (25 minutes) or head inland a little way for rafting trips and treetop trails at Parco Avventura Lao (25 minutes).
