An Abruzzo outdoor break – but make it luxury too? Plot a course to Villa Yucca, a little way outside the village of Torano Nuovo, for a stay that combines fresh air, fantastic views and fabulously comfortable accommodation.
This is a scenic spot indeed, with views of the mountains on one side and stretching towards the sea on the other. Being a couple of kilometres from the village also means it’s a peaceful place that’s well situated for both the village (with its shops and places to eat) and the numerous wineries of the surrounding area.
This area has plenty to offer for visitors, including hiking trails, beaches and medieval villages – in fact, there’s so much around that it can be tricky to know where to start. To help you out, the site owners can help book various outings and activities, and have installed a QR code in each of the glamping pods linking you to a list of their favourite recommendations for things to do and places to eat.
That thoughtful little touch is just one of the extras that comes as standard at this stylish site, where each pod has a one-off hand-painted artwork on its walls.. All sorts of things have been supplied here, from lanterns for a bit of atmosphere to a TV for when you fancy relaxing for a while – plus your own ensuite bathroom, of course. Towels and bed linen are provided, along with heating and air conditioning to keep the temperature just right. A buffet breakfast is included in the cost too, so you’ll get each day off to a good start.

Dit is een rustige plek: muziek is strikt verboden.- De camping staat alleen kleine honden toe, met een gewicht tot 10 kilo.
- Op deze camping zijn hondenrassen/kruisingen die in de 'lijst met hoog-risico honden op agressief gedrag' zijn opgenomen, niet toegestaan (zoals de pitbullterriër, tosa, Argentijnse dog en fila brasileiro). Ook de volgende rassen zijn niet welkom: de staffordshire-bulterriër, Amerikaanse staffordshireterriër, rottweiler en mastiff.

You can, of course, set out on your own as well, perhaps mixing in a few winery visits with some time spent in historic villages like Civitella del Tronto (20 minutes’ drive) and Grottammare Alta (half an hour). Towns like Campli, known for its painted staircase, and the elegant Ascoli Piceno are well worth visiting too; both are about a half-hour drive away.
Down at the coast, there’s a long sandy beach in Tortoreto Lido (20 minutes) and one of the Adriatic’s busiest fishing ports in San Benedetto del Tronto (25 minutes) – expect some good seafood meals in the restaurants over there. To entertain the kids, try places like Kartodromo Val Vibrata or Acquapark Onda Blu (both 20 minutes).
