Camping Gran Sasso is in the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park, a natural park at a height of 1,238 metres, and has a mountain setting and spectacularly scenic views. The local village and hill hamlet of Santo Stefano di Sessanio is ten minutes' walk away by an easy path for shops, restaurants and bars; several other old traditional villages and small towns are within easy driving distance. Several hiking trails as well as paths for horse riding and mountain biking are in the surrounding area. The site has a restaurant and bar where guests can relax with a drink, try the local dishes, or have a quick bite of cheese or cured meats. There's also a small shop with local guides, books and maps. Amenities include a washing-up area and a toilet block with coin-operated hot showers.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

The campsite is in the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, one of Italy's largest parks, home to the pastures of Campo Imperatore and the high heights of the Corno Grande, the highest peak of the Apennines (2,912 meters). Trekking and cycling are both popular pastimes in the park. The area is dotted with small traditional villages such as Campofelice, Ovindoli, Rivisondoli, Pescocostanzo, Prati di Tivo, the ski resort of Roccaraso, Scanno and Tagliacozzo. Abruzzo capital L'Aquila has a cathedral, a Spanish fort and medieval walls among its many old sights.
