If you’re aiming for the d’Ardèche area on your next holiday, take a good look at Camping Les Cruses, in the Monts d’Ardèche Regional Natural Park. About 10 minutes' drive from Joyeuse, this family-friendly site is in a fabulous spot for getting out to explore the area and try out all its activities – walking, canoeing, canyoning, fishing and swimming included.
And you’ll be able to throw other attractions into the mix as well, including the spectacular natural landscapes of the Gorges de l’Ardèche, the ancient paintings of the Grotte Chauvet and the historic Château de Montréal.
Not that it’s all about getting out and about – the site itself has plenty to entertain you, including football pitches, a padel court, pétanque courts, table tennis and a games room with pool table, pinball, table football and video games. There’s also a playground for the kids, and they can try out the ziplines and slackline for some new challenges.
When you need quieter time instead, head to the TV room or borrow a board game from reception. Or, of course, you could spend some time at the pool – perhaps having a dip before bubbling in the hot tub or reading your book on a lounger.
During peak season, there’s a good range of lively activities including aquagym classes, hikes and games tournaments, plus craft sessions, cooking classes and various other fun options for kids and adults alike.
For eats, you can cook your own dinner at the grill/barbecue area or take a table at the restaurant for quick snacks or leisurely meals. It also hosts themed meals and other evening entertainment during high season.

Honden moeten getatoeëerd of gechipt zijn.- Op deze camping zijn hondenrassen/kruisingen die in de 'lijst met hoog-risico honden op agressief gedrag' zijn opgenomen, niet toegestaan (zoals de pitbullterriër, tosa, Argentijnse dog en fila brasileiro). Ook de volgende rassen zijn niet welkom: de staffordshire-bulterriër, Amerikaanse staffordshireterriër, rottweiler en mastiff.

If you’re the kind of person that likes to challenge yourself with outdoor activities, you’ve come to the right place. Naturally, this area is full of hiking and mountain bike trails, but you can also have a go at canyoning and climbing with Gecco Aventure (10 minutes' drive) or get underground for caving days with Aventerra Guide Spéléo (20 minutes).
Active but not quite so intrepid? Hit the waterslides, inflatables and other fun bits at Family Kids Parc aquatique et jeux (15 minutes) or clamber up into the trees at Accrobranche Indy Parc (45 minutes). There are also scenic canoe trips through the Gorges de l’Ardèche from Vallon-Pont-d’Arc (40 minutes).
For something more leisurely, take a trip to Château de Montréal (20 minutes), with architecture from across the ages, explore the cliffside Jardins suspendus (25 minutes) or step back in time to admire the replica cave art at Grotte Chauvet (45 minutes).
