If you’re planning a trip to the Pyrénées-Orientales region, that probably means you’re hoping for some combination of beaches, vineyards, history-filled towns and natural landscapes filled with wildlife. In short, some of life’s simple pleasures… And if that approach also includes simple accommodation, take a look at Vacances ULVF - Canopéa, in the seaside town of Sainte-Marie-la-Mer. The gîtes here aren’t fancy but they’re fully functional and comfortable – just the thing for a budget-friendly family break or a chilled-out escape with your other half (and/or your dog…) Life is made nice and easy here with self-contained units that you’ll be able to move into without any of the fuss of setting up a tent. Each one has two bedrooms (one double room, the other with two single bunk beds), a shower room, a toilet and a living room with a kitchenette (with fridge, microwave, coffee maker and various bits of cooking kit). Bed linen is available for an additional charge, but you’ll need to bring towels with you. Outside, there’s space to relax on your private terrace, which has outdoor furniture and is shaded by pine trees. There's a communal barbecue area near the gîtes for those times when you’d like to do a bit of alfresco cooking, and a snack bar is open in the summer months. As this is a town location you’ll also be able to walk to restaurants and shops within about 10 minutes. Leisure facilities on site include a playground, a multisports court, table tennis and a library, and it’s an easy 20-minute walk to the beach when you fancy a dip.

Deze mooie camping biedt een gastvrije sfeer met vriendelijk personeel en aantrekkelijke prijzen. Gasten waardeerden de rustige omgeving en de nabijheid van het strand, 20 minuten lopen. Accommodaties waren soms gedateerd en warm. Parkeergelegenheid en geluidsoverlast door tuinonderhoud waren kleine minpunten. Het ontbreken van een zwembad werd ook genoemd.

Ik was blij met L'accueil et la gentillesse du personnel

Ik was niet blij met la vétusté du gite et la chaleur qui s'y installe. Nuits très difficiles

Ik was blij met C est un très joli camping, le directeur est quelqu'un de très accueillant, le personnel est agréable et les locations sont sympas. La plage est à 20 min à pied vraiment super pour y aller tous les jours.

Ik was niet blij met Les trottoirs encombrés et c est dommage de pas se garer juste à côté des habitations mais c est n’est pas un gros problème.

Ik was blij met Le calme, la gentillesse du directeur, le prix très attractif

Ik was niet blij met Les jardiniers qui débrousaillent juste a côté de nous pendant que l'on fait un barbecue alors que le parc est très grand .
La vétusté, un coups de peinture ferait du bien aux logements

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

It has to be the beach first, right? It’s a 20-minute walk to the beach of Sainte-Marie-la-Mer, a gorgeous three-kilometre stretch with plenty of space for swimming, sunbathing and sandcastle building. Paddleboarding and windsurfing are available for those who need a bit of activity, and there are several beach clubs with loungers, deckchairs, parasols and drinks for those who definitely don’t. You could probably spend most of your holiday right there, really – but if you’d like to explore more of the coast you could head to Le Barcarès (10 minutes’ drive), a buzzy seaside resort with lots of cultural events and markets. There are lots of lovely walks and bike rides along this stretch of coast too, plus salt marshes where you can look out for wildlife. For a bit of history, plan a day in Perpignan (20 minutes), climbing Le Castillet, touring the Palace of the Kings of Majorca and exploring the Hyacinthe Rigaud Art Museum. There are several wineries to visit in the area around the city too.
