And that’s what’s on offer at Pembrokeshire’s FSC Orielton, in a rural spot a five-minute drive from Pembroke (home to a museum and a castle as well as shops and places to eat).
Bring along your nature-spotting books and binoculars for a stay here: pitches at Orielton are in the rear gardens of a smart Georgian mansion at the centre of a 100-acre woodland. Guests are welcome to take a wander through the woods and down to the banks of the large pond, which usually attracts lots of wildlife.
This being Pembrokeshire, naturally there are plenty more places to get out for a walk nearby: the Pembrokeshire Coast Path is only a few kilometres in any direction, and that also puts the likes of Freshwater West, Barafundle Bay and Angle within a 15-minute drive and Tenby about 25 minutes away.
The area’s well supplied with days out for all the family too: it’s a 10-minute drive to the quiet vistas of Bosherston Lily Ponds, or less than half an hour to the thrills of Folly Farm, Oakwood Theme Park and Heatherton World of Activities.
Whatever you decide to fill your days with, back at Orielton you’ll be staying on grass pitches that have access to toilets, showers, picnic benches, a washing-up area and free wifi.
