Sitting between the seaside towns of Aberaeron and New Quay, Bargoed Farm is a family-run site 10 minutes’ drive from spectacular Cardigan Bay in Ceredigion. And not only is it family-run, it’s also very family-friendly, with a whole host of facilities to make life easy on site. These include a farm shop for topping up on supplies, a licensed bistro for those days when you can’t be bothered to spark up the barbecue and a play barn to keep kids safely occupied. The level, tree-lined pitches are all fully serviced with a lawned area for sitting out. Thoughtful additions in the shower block (it has disabled facilities) include hair dryers and a laundrette, and should you be bringing dogs with you, there’s also a dedicated dog wash area for cleaning muddy paws. With easy access off the A487, this quiet site is a convenient base for exploring Ceredigion, its beaches, historic sites and wildlife – watch out for red kites inland and dolphins in Cardigan Bay. A footpath leads from the site to the village of Llwyncelyn (10 minutes’ stroll), and a short walk from there takes you onto the scenic Wales Coast Path… You won’t need a car to explore the area, but a good pair of walking boots is essential.

Ik was blij met: We had a hot tub pitch and it was amazing, real luxury touch after a day exploring. Good size pitches, good space between motor homes / caravans.

Ik was niet zo blij met: The washroom facilities are fantastic but only cleaned once a day, not really enough for a site of size. Hence 4 not 5 star.

Ik was blij met: How clean everything was and how much room there was, we booked a hot tub pitch and wow we had the best 4 days. Staff came to check hot tub twice a day and made sure it was clean and safe. Highly recommend and a must for families. Food was also lovely and the farm shop was handy and well stocked.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Nothing really maybe a curtain on the hot tub area as we were on the end pitch and road can get busy.

Ik was blij met: Excellent site with super clean facilities and a fantastic restaurant on site. Very friendly and helpful staff and loved the fact they offered hot tub options-will deffo book that next time

Ik was niet zo blij met: Only disadvantage was if u haven’t brought sufficient padding / bedding for your tent the gravel hard standing pitches could be a bit hard but we were in a van so not a problem for us. A few friends in a tent thought they should have brought more padding as the gravel was a bit lumpy

Ik was blij met: Busy but not cramped site with clean and well thought out shower/toilet/ clean-up block.
On site cafe/bistro was fairly priced and the food was very good- we had evening meal and breakfast.

Ik was blij met: Location of the site very easy access to coastal villages and towns. Nice large pitches

Ik was niet zo blij met: Very noisy at weekends with people having parties past midnight. This was ok during the week.
Although the pitches state fully working the grey water waste was designed such that the waste had to run up hill to the waste pipe so we had to track down hill into someone else’s. The second one was blocked we had to unblock it ourselves I’m guessing it’s not used very much. A welcome pack would have been nice with map for walks etc. The site is probably more geared up for families. At weekends the toilet and showers in particular struggle to cope with the volume of people with the shower frequently reducing to a trickle of water.

Ik was blij met: The site was kept clean. The pitch that we had was in the adults only section and was massive. It was a very quiet and peaceful area. Staff were friendly and the facilities were fine.

Ik was blij met: Bistro, bar, play areas all on site with plans to extend to a water park in the future. Pitches level and large. Hot tub pitches looked amazing. Can have campfire. Free showers and clean facilities. Dog friendly and dog wash on site. Washing and drying machines too. Close to coast to walk. Aberaeron very nearby and worth the visit as was New Quay beach. Staff so friendly too.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Showers not too powerful but free so not a complaint.
WiFi dropped off a few times but free so again, no complaint.
Bistro booked up quickly as it’s open to the public.

Ik was blij met: Food was 10/10 very good site as a whole was good specially knowing that they are expanding and putting a water park on facilities were very clean local amenities were very good too

Ik was niet zo blij met: They have an indoor adventure play area which was cheap to play in with attached outdoor play area for kids but it costs they could do with a free outdoor play area for kids some areas proun to flooding as my brother found out

Take forays along the Wales Coast Path (direct access from the site), or pack a picnic and march the family down to sand-and-shingle Cei Bach Beach (50 minutes’ stroll/10 minutes’ drive) to see if you can spot dolphins playing in the waves. If the kids catch the wildlife bug, take them to see the birds of prey and butterfly house at the National Botanic Garden of Wales (55 minutes’ drive), where they can also encounter giant animal sculptures on lakeside walks. Learn more about the history of this corner of Ceredigion with a visit to the National Wool Museum (25 minutes), housed in an historic mill packed with original spinning looms; there are entertaining craft workshops for families. Fans of the combustion engine can see 19th-century machines in motion at The Internal Fire Museum of Power (20 minutes), giving an insight into the development of steam power. Staying with the heritage theme, tour the handsome John Nash-designed villa and lakeside gardens at National Trust - Llanerchaeron (10 minutes). If your offspring need an antidote to all that history, the crescent-shaped sandy beach at New Quay (10 minutes’ drive) has rock pools for crabbing and is backed by ice cream stalls and cafés.
