Scoring full marks in the sustainability stakes, the stylish wooden lodges at Banffshire’s Hillhead Hideaways also get top marks for their sheer luxuriousness. They were all built with eco-friendly materials and are powered by solar panels, so you can make thorough use of your exclusive hot tub and private barbecue house knowing your cabin footprint is pleasingly small. Life is made even more pleasant for you as robes, slippers and bluetooth speakers are supplied for your time in the hot tub – admire the hill views by day or sink into the bubbles at nighttime and watch the stars through the glass roof – while a starter pack of fuel and utensils are provided for barbecue time. Inside each well-insulated (always handy in the Highlands) pod is under-floor heating, TVs and premium bed linen. Kitchenettes have coffee machines for kickstarting in the morning, as well as a hob, grill and microwave if you don’t feel like grilling up a storm. Ensuite bathrooms come with powerful rain showers and complimentary toiletries, and a combination of bedding arrangements can sleep up to five guests in super-comfort. Although you may never want to leave your natty new home, Hillhead Hideaways is well-placed for adventures to the North Sea coast and many outdoor activities. If you run short of supplies, head for supermarkets in Keith (10 minutes’ drive).
