You’ll want to bring your barbecue and your best picnic blanket along when you stay at Purton House Camping – the camping pitches here are part of a 70-acre organic mixed farm, and the farm shop on site means you should be able to eat rather well while you’re here. Come along to this Wiltshire farm site and you’ll be staying on grass pitches among the trees near to the flock of organic free-range chickens. As you might expect from a place that prioritises eco-friendly farming methods, the pitches have been kept quite simple in style with facilities kept to just the basics of a compost toilet and ‘pissoire’. Electricity is available on request for things like charging your gadgets. This is a peaceful and spacious site where you’ll be able to set up your pitch as you like it with things like a gazebo or an awning (just add these as extras to your booking). Picnic tables are dotted around the place and you’ll be allowed to bring a barbecue to cook up your alfresco meals. And what will you be cooking? Well, it all depends on what you fancy in the farm shop – it’s well stocked with meat, dairy products and seasonal fruit and veg from the farm, plus various larder staples. It’s a real farm-to-fork experience, as you’ll spot the cows, pigs and chickens around the farm as well as the veg fields and polytunnels. For any other things you need to buy while you’re here, it’s a drive of 15 minutes or so into the centre of Swindon, which has lots of shops along with a good collection of leisure facilities.

If you’re not already getting hungry from the idea of all that tasty farm food, you probably will be once you’ve had a good long country walk or bike ride. Purton House Camping is in between the Cotswolds and the North Wessex Downs National Landscapes so you won’t be short of scenic trails to follow. And other outdoor adventures await nearby too – perhaps paddleboarding and kayaking at The Real Outdoor Xperience (15 minutes’ drive), archery and shooting at The Cotswold Range (15 minutes) or off-road electric scooter rides at Baboon Adventures (20 minutes). For something a little gentler, you could visit Butterfly World & Farm Park or stroll through the grounds of Lydiard Park (both 10 minutes). Swindon (15 minutes) is a good source of activities too – especially on damp days. It’s home to the excellent STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway, the Museum of Computing and the shops of Designer Outlet Swindon as well as an ice rink and cinemas.

Deze eenvoudige boerencamping biedt veel waar voor je geld in een rustig, pittoresk dorp, dichtbij boswandelingen en de I.R. Show. Sommigen vonden het rommelig met slechte bewegwijzering en geen contactpersoon, maar de beheerder zegt dat de plekken netjes zijn met stromend water. Het composttoilet is schoon. Sommige gasten hadden last van lawaai. Lokale pubs sloten vroeg.

Ik was blij met Quiet, in a cute village.

Ik was niet blij met Site was covered in litter and things being 'stored'. Really poor signage for any facilities, if there were any. No contact from host. No work had been done to the pitches.
If they tidied the place up, it would be fine for a £10 per night stay, but as it is, it's well over priced.

Ik was blij met Excellent stay, nice walks bot busy, free water, clean toilet, 15mins from Ir show.
Couldnt go wrong for less than 20quid.

Ik was blij met The area is nice and we had a lovely walk in woodlands close to the campsite.

Ik was niet blij met No running water. Very basic with a compost loo surrounded by stingy nettles.
Few other guests but noisy drunkenness in the middle of the night.
All pubs in the area closed at 6pm or didn't serve food on a bank holiday Sunday.

Van de manager: I am sorry that you were not happy with the camping area. The area was topped and tidy with plenty of space to pitch tents in pleasant surroundings. There was running water on a stand pipe in the field and also by the farm shop, i am sorry if you were not made aware of this.
We do state that it is basic camping and the compost toilet was easily accessible with a clear path strimmed and cut back in the orchard area.
We do not state that we offer any activities or provisions for children so to give us 2 out of 10 for that is slightly unfair.
We are a fully working farm that try to help keep the farm going with a little added income for camping. We are not a commercial campsite and do not claim to be.
