Augustus Camping is a family-run Hampshire site with simple pitches spread over 12 acres of flat, well-tended and well-drained grounds five minutes’ drive from Fordingbridge. There’s easy access to fishing, country walks and cycle paths from here – and much more to explore on the outdoor activities front in the New Forest National Park, a few minutes’ drive away (not just walks and cycling but also horse riding, watersports and golf). Salisbury, Stonehenge and Bournemouth beach are all within a half-hour drive too, and it’s about an hour to the Jurassic Coast if you don’t mind travelling a tad further for your days out. Life is pretty laidback on site – friendly dogs are welcome as long as they’re kept on leads, and there’s plenty of space for campfires and barbecues. Firepits can be hired for lovely long alfresco evenings, and guests will have access to water, showers, portable toilets and rubbish/recycling facilities. If you are indeed planning a barbecue (or picnic), it’s highly recommended that you stop in at the local farm shop 500 metres away for local meat, veg, cheese and wines. There are several pubs in Fordingbridge if you feel like letting someone else do the honours with cooking.
