On the lookout for coastal capers? Seeking a site that's right on the beach? Then pack your bucket, spade and jelly shoes and head to Castaways Holiday Park in Bacton, Norfolk. This site has direct access to a sandy strand that stretches out for miles in each direction. For seaside strolls, just follow the handy path that runs along the coast to nearby Mundesley (two miles) or Walcott (a mile and a half); even more handily, there are also several spots to stop for ice cream en route. This part of the world is known as the Deep History Coast, and fossils are often uncovered at West Runton, 25 minutes' drive away from base. Castaways Holiday Park has plenty of nifty amenities to help guests get as much beach time as possible. On site, there are laundry facilities and a shop where you can buy holiday basics and souvenirs. Families with younger kids will likely appreciate the safe, fenced-off play area, while teens (and competitive grown-ups) can head to the arcade-style games room for air hockey, video games and grab machines. Wifi is available on site, which means that castaways here can stay connected as much as they like. Four-legged friends are welcome too, as are barbecues for outdoor dining. Doing your own cooking not part of your holiday plan? Head to the site's bar and restaurant, The Cliff Top Inn, which serves drinks and traditional pub grub to eat in or take away. The inn is located below the site's hotel.

Further up the coast, Cromer (20 minutes' drive) has seaside attractions in spades: the pier hosts tribute acts and quiz nights and is a fab place to try your hand at crabbing. More family-friendly days out can be had at Amazona Zoo (25 minutes), North Norfolk Steam Railway (35 minutes) and Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach (45 minutes). If you're looking to get out into nature, head to the Norfolk Broads. These marshy waterways (and the wildlife that lives there) are best discovered by boat, which you can hire at Wroxham (25 minutes). The town is also home to a visitor centre, helping newcomers to the national park get their bearings. Norfolk is famous for its wide open skies, so it should come as no surprise that this is a prime spot for astronomers. Stargazers have a range of options hereabouts, but one of the best can be found at Horsey Mere (30 minutes), a secluded spot deep in the Broads. Don't know your Big Dipper from your Orion's Belt? Head to Reepham Observatory (40 minutes), where regular public events are held.

Gasten prezen het vriendelijke personeel en de uitstekende strandtoegang. Caravans waren schoon en goed uitgerust met fantastisch uitzicht. Kleine minpunten waren er, zoals een losse toiletbril. Het park wordt aanbevolen.
