Guest after guest takes time out of their day to praise the friendly owners in reviews of Fairhaven Camping and Glamping – that’s got to be a great start, surely? But that’s not all this family-run Shropshire site has going for it, as the location’s likely to be a winner too: it’s in the village of Maesbury, just outside Oswestry, with walks and bike rides directly outside the gates. Local strolls might take you to traditional pubs for homemade food, or to the nearby Montgomery canal for waterside walks, rides on a horse-drawn barge or a stopoff at the canal’s central café for a scone smothered in cream. Heading further afield? The speedy A483 is a mile away for easy travels, but if you’re leaving the car behind you can flag down a bus just outside the site for jaunts into Oswestry and Shrewsbury. Time spent on site should be pretty peaceful – the park stretches out over four acres of quiet green space, with plenty of space to spread out, set up a barbecue or light up a campfire. Firepits can be hired here, and there’s firewood for sale too. Amenities include three toilets, two showers, two wash basins, a washing-up area with hot water, drinking water, free phone charging, chemical waste disposal, waste water disposal and use of a fridge and freezer. A chemical toilet and toilet tent are available to hire. One last thing that’s won a fair amount of fans? The chickens and ducks that live on site, waiting to be fed by visiting kids and providing eggs for sale in return.

Ik was blij met Such a lovely, well cared for site. From the friendly welcome as soon as we arrived, to the clean toilets and hot showers and the friendly chickens (very yummy free range eggs) we really enjoyed a nice relaxing couple of days. Even ice lollies in the little shop freezer which were perfect on a hot sunny day. Wish we could of stayed longer. Will definitely be back. Thank you x

Ik was blij met Very friendly campsite owner, greeted with a friendly smile. There was a little fridge for guests to put their items in to keep cold and honesty box for ice creams etc. very peaceful site and pub within a 5 minute walk was also a bonus.

Ik was niet blij met The only thing is that (due to weather ) it was too hot for us to have a bbq or camp fire so it made meal times a bit difficult unless we drove out for food etc. This is at no fault of the owner though she has to keep everybody safe, from what we saw there was not many shops in walking distance but within a 10 minute drive

Clean & tidy, lovely staff. CHICKENS! Will go again!

Ik was blij met Facilities are clean and tidy. Site was well maintained.
Host was lovely and we were greeted kindly with a smile, there was firewood available and some chocolate and an honesty box.
We were handed a leaflet with very basic site rules.

There is one bad review on here complaining about the strict rules, they are there for guests like you.
All rules are just common curtesy to others.

I haven't mentioned chickens yet!
They have friendly chickens roaming free!

The owner is extremely friendly and helpful and is always There to sort any problem out.
Having a fridge freezer on site is even better if you need your food frozen or chilled
The sand pit and the ability to feed the chicken n ducks is a bonus for the kids

Ik was blij met The site was lovely, easy to find with clear directions and Google maps took us there too, location was perfect. The pitches were flat and easy to peg in, they were large and spacious. It was quite windy during our stay but felt sheltered from it by the wildlife area.
Had a lovely warm welcome. We hired a fire pit and it was put by our pitch with logs, matches, kindling etc. the house had lots of bits for sale using an honesty box and a fridge/freezer in there too. Toilets and showers were clean all the time. I liked the notice board with information and lots of leaflets.
Really lovely site and we’ll definitely visit again when visiting family in the area.

Getting a fix of rural life is pretty simple around here: take your rod over to Weston Pools Fishery (two minutes’ drive) for a day by the water or make friends with farmyard animals at Park Hall The Countryside Experience (10 minutes). If you time your stay right you might also be able to catch an event at the Oswestry & District Agricultural Society showground (10 minutes). Fancy a hit of history with that? Try Whittington Castle (10 minutes), which often stages goings-on like medieval days and ghost tours, or take an inside/outside stroll around Chirk Castle and its gorgeous gardens (20 minutes). If your tastes veer more towards the 21st century, check out the creations at the British Ironwork Centre or check out Cae Glas Park and the eclectic mix of shops in Oswestry (all about five minutes away). Folk who just want to get out for a walk should set their sights on Wat’s Dyke Way (five minutes away), take a waterside wander at The Mere (20 minutes) or nip over the border into Wales to stroll along the shores of Lake Vyrnwy (45 minutes). Fancy a pint at the end of it all? Head to Stonehouse Brewery, a mile from the site, for a tour and/or samples of some award-winning beers.
