Mi è piaciuto Quiet, comfortable pool area with shade available. Very few non French holiday makers stayed here in August, which we liked. Some of the staff were very friendly & helpful, although only 1 lady spoke any English (again, this is fine - it’s good to practice our French!). The on-site restaurant was about the same price-wise as restaurants in town but was inconsistent in quality. Laundrette on-site, handy (small) bar. We had a good sized pitch with our own water supply (although it was a high pressure hose). Always enough toilets and showers available, we never had to wait. Argelès old town was nice, quite pretty. The beach area (huge) is extremely busy and a bit kiss-me-quick; Racou, next to the pretty port & marina, is far more laid back and was more our style. There was always a nice breeze at the beach but none elsewhere. The setting of the (large) town, at the foot of the Pyrenees, is pretty.

Non mi è piaciuto Our pitch unfortunately had zero shade, which in the recent high temperatures (35+) was very uncomfortable. We could hear the motorway too. The cycle into the old town or the Port/Racou was easy going downhill but a killer on the return journey in high temperatures; we’ve never been as hot and sweat soaked in our lives! You need to be fit to cycle back, it’s a good 20 minutes uphill on dedicated cycle paths that run adjacent to busy roads. A car or electric bike is essential as there’s tons of parking in Racou (the nicest beach). It’s too far to walk to the beach - an hour in high temperatures up a big hill.

Mi è piaciuto Condom is a hidden gem, very pretty & well preserved with some lovely cafes and restaurants and a smashing municipal pool/lido 5 minutes walk from the campsite (not heated and no sun beds - take towels and a picnic blanket or camping chairs). There’s a Lidl and a huge bakery a 2 minute drive away and a couple of greengrocers, butchers and bakeries in the town centre. We ate at the gorgeous restaurant that backs onto the campsite and overlooks the most picturesque lock on the river; they have a kitchen garden and chatty chickens you can hear across the campsite. I can highly recommend the food; we ate possibly the best meal in France that we’ve had for years, 3 courses for €30 and €20 for wine. Absolute bargain. The campsite is fantastic; a lovely, friendly couple run it and are extremely helpful as well as speaking fluent English. The pitches are private and a good size, very green and shady across the site. Water taps are a 10 second walk from every pitch. The showers, loos and separate sinks are immaculate, as is the laundry room and washing up room. It’s a small site but tidy and well taken care of and only a 15 minute meander along a shady riverside path into the small town centre. We stayed 2 nights as a stopover on the way to the south coast, and we wished we’d stayed another night.
