Cool, well-equipped campsite just off the South Downs Way
giu 2026 Mi è piaciuto Excellent little campsite, stayed mid-week in June and I was the only person there. Amazed how remote it felt for somewhere in South East England. Facilities were clean and worked great.

Non mi è piaciuto Arrived to a field with livestock faeces everywhere. No toilet roll in the toilet for the first two days I was there, with no evidence of any upkeep during that time. Information on shower asks to keep the gas at the lowest setting, which meant the water was barely warmed.
With the field cleaned up before the camping season, a warmer shower and toilets with toilet roll and hand sanitizer, I'd have been happy enough to pay £10-12 per night, fine with £15 especially given the nice location. I paid £20 per night for 1 person in a tent when I think the main advantage I had beyond pitching up on Meldon Tor for free just down the road was the fact I could leave my tent in situ during the day. I really don't think it's too much more effort to create a decent campsite, but sadly it feels like the proprietors want the money from running a campsite without the effort.

Not seeing other campers (or much artificial light) is exactly what we aim for. It was great to meet you both on your cycling trip — Bowhayes tends to work well as a simple, quiet stopover for bikepackers, so it’s good to hear it suited you.
