Mi è piaciuto Very peaceful, with large pitches (only one other van in use when we stayed). The site is beautifully looked after and pitches are level. The facilities (washrooms/showers and wash up room) were spotless and well designed for comfort and use. The landscaping around the fishing lake is excellent, with several picnic tables available. The site is dark at night, but the facilities are discretely lit so that you can find your way there easily in the dark.
Non mi è piaciuto Not a problem for us, but there’s not much in the way of walks from the site. It’s a place to go to relax and get away from it all.

Mi è piaciuto This site is exquisite, and we were very pleased to be back again. We were able to pitch with a view of the River Nene, Fotheringhay Castle (a mound only remains) and Fotheringhay church, which is a gem. For company we had red kites overhead. For sustenance we ate and drank at the superlative Falcon Inn, ten minutes walk away. For our personal needs the PortaLoos were spotless and well-located. For our absolute comfort, we did use levelling blocks for the campervan (first notch only).
If you are happy off-grid then this is a wonderful place to be.
Non mi è piaciuto Nothing.

Mi è piaciuto This site is exquisite! We were free to choose our own pitch for the campervan. The choice is between anywhere in a vast open meadow, or alternatively, to select a more private pitch from many created in small clearings (one pitch per clearing) in a well-planted woodland landscape to the side of the open field. No-brainier really, the woodland pitches are a true delight, and flat too.
Facilities are limited (as advertised), but the composting toilets ( two of, about a hundred yards apart so perfectly discreet) are actually very nice to use, great idea.
We were met by a very friendly young man on arrival, and the owner came over later once we were settled, to check all was well. We had a very pleasant stay despite torrential rain from early evening through until first thing in the morning, which did mean that we were able to pack up after the rain had stopped, for a leisurely departure. The sandy soil also meant that you could hardly tell that it had rained in the morning. There was no time of departure to keep to, which sums up the wonderfully relaxed attitude of this special site. We will be back.
Non mi è piaciuto Well, not everything is perfect, is it! There was a fair bit of nighttime noise from aircraft and helicopters at nearby RAF Mildenhall. Did this bother us? No.
F15s from RAF Lakenheath flew almost overhead as they took off in the morning around 8.30am. Did this bother us? No, it’s exciting.
There was also a fair bit of intermittent noise from nearby dog kennels, which I did find disturbing but my wife wasn’t too bothered by. This was really the only downside of our stay. We’ll be back.

Mi è piaciuto What a wonderful location, with far ranging views (the site is very close to the highest points of both Essex and Cambridgeshire). The pitch area is beautifully kept, and the approach and paths well mown. Sarah came over to check all was well after we had set up, and is a most delightful host. The facilities are spotless. We pitched to the left of the “field of dreams” sign, which tucked us neatly out of the way from the security light on the barn (see below) and gave us unobstructed views to the east and south. There is an excellent pub in Chrishall village, but we stayed on site and self-catered on this occasion. We managed to get packed up and away before the weather broke the following day.
Non mi è piaciuto Whilst we had a lovely stay, and will certainly be visiting again, a couple of things did bother us. Firstly, there is a very bright security light on the barn next to the farmhouse, which floodlights (at a distance) the campsite. We knew about this from a previous visit, and pitched to avoid this issue, but the light is still very bright if you are approaching the facilities at night. Secondly, there was a fair amount of aircraft noise from jets approaching maybe Stansted or Luton late at night. We didn’t notice this last time, so it may depend on wind direction and atmospherics, as well as time of year. Not much that you can do about this except give feedback to the airport authorities.
Both of these issues are minor in reality compared to the excellence of the site, and we will certainly not hesitate to visit again.

Mi è piaciuto Fabulous far ranging views across rolling countryside from the top of the site where we parked our campervan and pitched our toilet tent, on very well kept grass. Charles visited to check that all was OK and was charm and helpfulness personified, what a lovely guy! The site is generally rather undulating with some flatter areas, so we used our levelling blocks to tweak things a bit. The portaloos are spotless and well placed.
At the edge of the site the river Nene flows slowly past, and it is (I’m told by the missus) warm and lovely to swim in. In the near distance to the north you see Fotheringhay church, which is a real gem, architecturally quite unusual and with a lot of history, and well worth a visit. Further on into Fotheringhay is the Falcon Inn (less than 15 minutes easy stroll from the campsite). The Falcon is another fascinating building (the village is full of them), the beer and food are superb, and the service was top class. Also, from the window of the Ladies (upstairs), you get the very best view of the flying buttresses on the church (the missus took some photos for me to see).
Fotheringhay Castle is not going to be a high point for you (other than its mound, which is high) - it has long since been repurposed (try the Talbot Hotel in Oundle for example).
Looking for peace and quiet? You’ve got it, apart from those pesky cuckoos and skylarks.
Looking for wildlife? You’ve got it - red kites overhead, damselflies and butterflies flitting around all over the place.
Looking for bangs for your bucks? You’ve got it.
Looking forward to your stay here? You’ve got to be!
Non mi è piaciuto Not possible to dislike anything here as long as you appreciate beforehand that the facilities are limited to a few portaloos.

Mi è piaciuto This was our second visit here. As in June last year, we were met by Dave on arrival, and he allowed us to choose our pitch, as we were the first on site for the evening. It was great to be back in this peaceful and beautifully landscaped site again. Unfortunately, the weather broke shortly after we had settled in, and it was a cold, wet and windy evening and night. No matter, the excellent and vast shower/wc facilities were not only immaculately clean, but also very cosy indeed - it was almost tempting to set up camp in there! The wash-up area was also tip-top. So, well done Dave for maintaining such a lovely site with such excellent facilities - we hope the overnight fee at least covers your heating costs! We had a very good nights rest, and enjoyed our short stay as much as before, especially as the rain had stopped by morning. We’ll be back!
Non mi è piaciuto If you want to walk far, there are no obvious walks to take from the site, and access to the bank of the river Nene is restricted to a few hundred yards. We knew this, and came to chill out (but hadn’t expected the weather to join in too), so this was not an issue for us.

Mi è piaciuto We had a very friendly welcome to Pightle Farm, and were allowed to park wherever we liked in the pitching field, with a useful tip for a good place, which we used. The views over Cambridgeshire to the East and North East are stunning, and the site is very attractive and well landscaped. The site is quiet too. Facilities are basic but perfectly adequate, a fairly short walk from the campsite. We walked to the Red Cow in Chrishall for dinner, 25 minutes walk, which was no problem in the dark on the way back. The food at the pub was magnificent, as was the service. We had a very good stay and will be back.
Non mi è piaciuto There is a very bright security light on a barn, which floodlights most of the camping area - we played shadow puppets on the hedge at the far side of the site. This was annoyingly intrusive when the night sky was otherwise so dark, but didn’t impact the darkness in the campervan once the blackouts were in place.

Mi è piaciuto We had a very warm welcome from Heather, who briefed us on facilities and the local area when we arrived. Our pitch was well placed, with power and water to hand. The site itself is well laid out, green and spacious, with excellent and immaculate toilet/shower units. It was also quiet, and discretely lit by fairy lights at night so that we could find our way to the facilities, but otherwise not intrusively lit.
The location is excellently placed for exploring this part of Suffolk, we visited several churches nearby of architectural or other interest (Ixworth Thorpe, Bacton, Cotton, Mendlesham). In the evening we walked to The Bull in Bacton, 35 minutes along a delightful bridleway and village pavements. We didn’t eat there but the menu looked excellent, and the pub itself was a delight. It was easy enough to return on foot in the dark, but if need be, Heather had said that we could phone from the pub and they would come and collect us - how good is that for going the extra mile to make your visitors happy?!! With a sparkling clear starry night too, what’s not to like? We’ll be back for more.
Non mi è piaciuto Wash-up facility was not lit after dark (as far as we could tell), but not a big deal really.
