The area

Cancelled booking once I was given pitch location. The pitch did not comply with 6m x 4m it was too small and also they expected me to pitch parallel to a caravan within 2 feet of this caravan. Which is in breech of general camping distance of 6m (if possible, not 2 feet).
Initially I was told that it was fully booked and pitch couldn't be changed.
Once inside at reception I did get offered another pitch but refused this and asked for a refund which I received.

Great little site. Clean, quiet and a friendly reception. Beautiful village too.

How peaceful the campsite was. It was very close to the pub. The pub had friendly staff and was very comfortable. Food was great and reasonably priced also. Close to the town centre and only 30 minutes drive from York. This was a lovely place to stay and relax.

The surrounding area

Such a shame! 4th and probably the last visit. Overcharging on the electric hookup, and not offering any refund on unused credit!
Toilets are ready for an upgraded and in desperate need of sorting. Only one toilet for all the site! The campsite grounds are now quite neglected and need some TLC.
The Pub drinks are massively overpriced in comparison to the other local public Houses.
However I can’t fault the friendly and helpful staff!!

£5.00 electric card for 2 nights didn’t last. We only ran the fridge, water heater for 10 minutes and boiled the kettle half a dozen times as we drank cold ones as it was a very hot weekend. We ran out of electricity through the second night. This has never happened to us before. We have been to several this year with the cards, and ended up with credit left on. Only 2 toilets and one shower on a fairly big site. Showers were poor and you had to press every 5 seconds to keep the water running. Site needs a few improvements for the price sadly.

Good communications prior to visit and friendly, helpful staff.
Restaurant and food excellent and good beer.
Site level and little traffic noise, a real sense of being in the country. Plenty of birdsong.
Toilet facilities basic but clean
Lovely walks along the Ouse but in June wildly overgrown and some paths almost impassable with stinging nettles
Village quiet, attractive and steeped in history.
Village tea room makes excellent cakes and sells plants
One hour bus journey to York

When the site is full as on our visit with a large party celebrating a birthday, expect some noise.
With alternate grass and hardstanding pitches our campervan with a soft top landed up very close to a large family tent. The manager asked if if we were ok about it but the late arrival had pitched before he could redirect them. There was subsequent noise intrusion and possible safety implications.

Made to feel welcome, lovely site which is very clean. Great pub food and beers. Lovely picturesque village

Beautiful Village, staff were absolutely fantastic couldn’t do enough to help, shower facilities superb, lovely walk and interesting facts and dog friendly !
