Thank you for your review and we're pleased to know you enjoyed the convenience of our location to Castle Howard as well as the beautiful lakeside walks. We are in a very rural location and are surrounded by local wildlife that can vary throughout the seasons. Sorry the gate slammed shut but it is designed to shut to keep children safe. We will pass on your feedback to the relevant teams.

Be aware there is NO DIRECT ACCESS to Castle Howard from the Lake Walk. Indeed the only way is via a long walk or short drive along the roadway devoid of a footpath. ( in my opinion not a place to walk children or anyone with mobility issues ) The car park is FREE so go in the car.
We're really lucky with the abundance of wildlife here. It's lovely to know you enjoyed it. Fishing is an ancillary offering and not designed for the serious fisherman but we are pleased you had a successful catch. We are opening a new path to Castle Howard in mid-July to help make it a more pleasant walk. Of course, as you say, there is also the option to drive with free parking at Castle Howard. Guests are restricted from walking all round the lake because there is a charge for entry to the gardens as they are part of the visitor attraction. All visitors need to go in the main entrance to show/buy their ticket, however you can enjoy lovely views across The Great Lake of Castle Howard. We hope you will return to visit us again.

Had to queue every day. No security at the entrance or exit anyone can just enter the site. Will not use again.
