When a set of new neighbours moved in privacy and peace went out of the window as there is only a rung fence separating the pitches.. This sadly is more about poor manners and disinterest in others rather than the camp site! However, backing directly onto other pitches when there is an almost endless flow of poor/unacceptable language and behaviour at equally unacceptable volume does rather sour a otherwise lovely stay.

You are correct in that being in a dip of the beautiful Howardian Hills can make reception from some providers tricky, a fact disliked by some guests but approved of by those who love the chance to be 'off-grid' and away from it all for a while. Our FAQ's, which can be read before booking, do state that there is no Wi-fi. We hope however that you were able to make use of the free wi-fi which is available at Castle Howard.

Shop is really only selling expensive Castle Howard products …eg £2.40 for 6 eggs that’s greed . First time after a month away in N Yorks did I feel need to lock van at night as campsite did not feel safe. Dog faeces on pitch, around loos and around site … yes that’s campers but who checks if no presence.
Thank you for taking the time to review Lakeside Linda. We are naturally very disappointed with your comments and your rating. When comparing your review to the reviews by other guests staying at the same time as yourself it sounds like a completely different site. The site during your mid-week booking, was relatively quiet for the last week of the summer holiday. None of the team had any reports of noise, security issues or dog dirt on site.
Our shop, which was added last year and has been a popular addition, is a small convenience store which stocks a few luxuries and a few necessities many of which are reasonably priced. If needed, there are supermarkets just five miles away in Malton.
Our touring visitors are just as important to us as the holiday home owners and therefore we are saddened that you didn't call in to reception before leaving early to inform us of any problems you had experienced; had we been allerted we would have done our utmost to get the problems resolved quickly and perhaps you may have stayed to enjoy the rest of your time here.

Very helpful, as our pump was broken for the air beds and the staff lent us one to complete our set up. Toilets and showers were clean. Kitchen area to wash pots, and a freezer available for any ice packs. Lovely walk by the lake with a great view of the castle. Plenty of places a short drive away if you’re looking for days out.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Lakeside. We're sorry to hear that other people, with no consideration for others and bad language, soured your stay. Thank you for understanding this wasn't our fault; sadly we can't 'vet' our guests in advance and have to trust that our campers will follow our code of conduct and be respectful. We cannot know how guests will speak; for many bad language is a habit picked up from the people they associate with and they don't understand how irritating and offensive it can be.
Unfortunatley the electric grass pitches all need to be close to the supply which means their position is fixed but, had we been notified, we could either have tried to move you away or had a gentle word with the offending group to ask them to appreciate that we are a family site where bad language is not acceptable. We always try and help rectify any problems so please do always let us know. We hope you will visit again.
