Canoeing, sailing and fishing are all popular around the Vecht, the Netherlands part of the Rhine running from Utrecht to Muiden. Have a city day in municipality capital Ommen, 20 minutes' drive away, where sights to see include the tin figurine museum and the estates of Vilsteren and Eerde castles. The Pieterpad walking route, the most hiked in the Netherlands, passes through Ommen on its 498-kilometre run from Pieterburen to the top of Mount Saint Peter just south of Maastricht.
