Settle in at Vodatent at Camping Dal van de Mosbeek, in the village of Mander, and you can afford to focus all your packing attentions on the fun stuff (the bikes, the fishing rods and your fave holiday gladrags) without any need to gather tent accessories, cooking gubbins and the like.
Stays at this site on a peaceful former dairy farm are in smart safari tents that have been thoughtfully kitted out with all manner of handy bits, including beds, heating, lighting and a nifty mobile kitchen that’s packed with useful utensils and can be wheeled out on to the terrace or under cover depending on the weather and your mood. You’ll just need to bring along the food and drinks… although there is a communal space with coffee, snacks and ice creams if you’re really travelling light.
Having all this sorted for you means you can get more quickly stuck into the important business of holiday time, which might involve heading out into the surrounding Landschapspark Noord-Oost Twente for walks, bike rides or horseback outings. Or it might involve staying around on site for games of table tennis, pétanque and football while the nippers hit the playground, scream along the zipwire or have a go on the go-karts. And although this is no longer a working farm, there are still animals including goats and rabbits to coo over (yes grownups, you too…)

Rural wanders of various types are on the cards in the surrounding Landschapspark Noord-Oost Twente – bring bikes along (or hire on site) to pedal your way around this pretty area, or stride out on walking trails. Stables in the area can sort horse riding outings, and there’s fishing to be had at de Broekbeke ponds (10 minutes’ drive).
For gentle urban wanders, get out and about in Ootmarsum (10 minutes), which has several galleries for arty types, an observatory for starry-eyed sorts and an open-air museum that aims to bring the area’s past to life through typical homes and other buildings. (There also happens to be a brewery in town, in case any grownups need to pick up evening supplies…)
All a bit too placid for the small people in your life? Take them off to the rides, shows and waterpark at Slagharen or the colourful kid-pleasing rides at Hellendoorn theme park (both 40 minutes away). You might also like to consider nipping over the border into Germany for a day at Nordhorn Zoo (25 minutes).
