The laidback life stretches to the local area too... a good start is to hire bikes on site to pedal your way around the island (it’s only 15 kilometres long, so nothing’s all that far away). The main villages of Okrug Gornji and Slatine are both about four kilometres away for beaches, restaurants and inflatable waterparks, or you could slope off to find your own secluded corner of the island. It’s worth spending some time in Trogir – the walled medieval city is on its own little island a five-minute drive from the site, and it’s a fab place for a wander through the marble streets of the old town or a drink looking out over the yacht-filled harbour. A day trip to Split is also easily doable, either driving for 40 minutes or boarding a boat from Slatine. Other day trips are a doddle if you get the folk on site to help sort them: they can give you a hand with local antics including boat trips and scuba diving, or more far-flung parts like Plitvice Lakes, Šibenik or the Kornati Islands.
