Taking glamping to new heights (literally) of luxurious Santum is set high on a hillside with extensive views to the mountains. Exclusive is the word for this gorgeous adults-only spot, designed with lavish and stylish detail to be in harmony with the surrounding forest. Every aspect is there to give guests a true, back-to-nature experience in the utmost comfort. A king-size bed in a geodesic dome, illuminated by the light of the stars and moon by night, and with mountain views by day – you don’t even need to get out of bed to appreciate them. There’s a cool marble bathroom too, with an open-air shower and lots of hot water. The design takes outdoor living to a new zenith too; the living space – with a funky gas fire and a heated Jacuzzi – has Villa de Leyva views, and here you can hunker down to watch the sunrise in total peace, tune in to the sounds of the forest and at night, cosy up under the starry sky on your private decking. The kitchen’s not been neglected either. Fully equipped and also alfresco, it has storage, a sink and a three-burner barbecue, so you can cook whatever you fancy, and eat it on the terrace overlooking those fabulous mountain views.

Challenge your nerves on zipwires and the glass bridge at Paso Del Angel adventure park (25 minutes’ drive), or go underground exploring at El Hoyo De La Romera (20 minutes) to see spectacular limestone stalactites and stalagmites. You can also go caving at La Cascada y Cueva Del Hayal (25 minutes), where a tumbling waterfall hides the mouth of the cavern. For more sedate couples’ trips out, Vineyard Ain Karim (20 minutes) is just the place for a leisurely afternoon with a glass of wine and a good cheese board, and you can tour the winery too. Backed by mountains and pine forest, Pozos Azules (30 minutes) is a romantic and secluded little spot overlooking a lake known for the changing colour of its water. Also well-worth a look is Casa Terracota (30 minutes), looking for all the world like a cross between an adobe hobbit house and a Gaudí church, and with a garden strewn by wacky contemporary sculpture.
