Escape to the East Neuk of Fife for a break that mixes up sea air, wonderful nature and a good dose of luxury – Off Grid Travel at Cambo Estate is a place where you can really wind down in scenic surroundings without sacrificing any comfort at all.
Run by an eco travel company that specialises in zero-carbon holidays, this site is part of the gorgeous Cambo Estate, right next to the Fife coast about five minutes’ drive from Crail (and 20 minutes from St Andrews). That location is an excellent one for some relaxed downtime – you’ll be able to wander along the estate’s woodland paths, take little ones to the nature play area or fairy trail and explore the walled gardens (guests get free tickets to visit).
As well as all that, it’s also just a few minutes’ walk to the beach, the local golf course and a distillery producing gin and whisky. And for a longer walk, you can always head out on the Fife Coastal Path – perhaps followed by something to eat from the veggie café back on the estate.
But even with all this on offer nearby, you might find it tricky to tear yourselves away from the comforts of your cabin. All the accommodation here has been thoughtfully designed to provide a luxurious experience that also brings you closer to nature (with things like huge windows on the cabins, plus private outdoor space with a hammock and barbecue/firepit).
Each of the cabins is self contained with its own kitchen and bathroom, and has a woodburning stove to keep everything nice and cosy.

Start by exploring your estate surroundings – perhaps taking a gentle stroll along the network of paths or spending some time at the nature play area with the kids. Also within a few minutes’ walk are the gin/whisky tours, drinks terrace and café at Kinsgbarns Distillery, and the nearby beach – where you can swim, book the wood-fired sauna and pick up a coffee.
For more energetic pursuits, bring your golf clubs for a round at nearby Kingsbarns Golf Links (three minutes’ walk) or one of the many other courses around here – including the prestigious Old Course (20 minutes’ drive). There are also lots of fun activities for kids in Craigtoun Country Park (25 minutes) and cute Highland cows to meet at Kinkell Byre (15 minutes).
Stop by in a local village for an insight into traditional fishing – and maybe some fresh seafood. Crail (five minutes) and Pittenweem (15 minutes) are both good options. You could also take a wander around St Andrews (20 minutes), visit Kellie Castle (15 minutes) or delve into Scotland’s Secret Bunker (10 minutes).
