Port Lympne Safari Park (30 minutes) has over 900 species of animals to see, while South of England Rare Breeds Centre (15 minutes) is home to smaller farm animals and birds of prey. Want to act a little like an ape yourself instead? At Go Ape Bedgebury (30 minutes), you’ll soon feel that way on the treetop courses and zipwires in the treetops. Those of you who want to see some old sites can head for historic Hastings (50 minutes), where fishing boats meet funiculars and clifftop walks meet strolls in the Old Town. Whether you’re having a paddle on the shingle beach or going underground into tunnels once used by smugglers, there’s always a bit of sea or history around the corner. Then, there’s Canterbury (50 minutes), a UNESCO World Heritage Site and well worth the title – just take a look at the spectacular cathedral, St Augustine’s Abbey and the medieval gatehouse (home to its own escape room).
