Back in 2000, Michael Allen opened up Moat Barn Caravan Park to welcome guests to his lovely patch of Suffolk countryside. Location, facilities and a friendly welcome meant that it quickly became a popular place, with many customers returning time and again. Fast forward to the present day and Michael’s son James has taken the reins, aiming to continue the legacy by looking after the needs of customers old and new. The ownership may have (slightly) changed, but the setup remains the same – it’s a peaceful adults-only site with spacious pitches on closely mown grass and access to well-maintained facilities. The main facilities here are in a heated bathroom block, which has handy hairdryers and shaver plugs as well as toilets and showers; washing-up sinks and a chemical disposal point are also provided. It’s a relaxed and friendly site but you’ll be asked to observe a couple of rules: namely keeping the noise down after 9.30pm, keeping dogs on leads and making sure barbecues are raised off the ground to avoid damaging the grass. This is a sweet Suffolk location in a quiet rural area but with easy access to nearby attractions (partly as it’s only a couple of miles from the A12). Woodbridge (10 minutes’ drive) is your nearest town, but the area is packed with things to see and do, and some great places to eat. Handily, James is always happy to help out with recommendations, perhaps including a couple of local secrets that visitors may not find on their own…

Struttura impeccabile e tranquilla per soli adulti. Ospiti lodano la pulizia eccezionale di bagni con docce calde e piazzole ordinate. Il proprietario James è un punto di riferimento per gentilezza e disponibilità. L'arredamento un po' datato delle strutture è superato dalla pulizia. La campagna è apprezzata, ma si raccomanda un mezzo per raggiungere servizi e attrazioni.

Mi è piaciuto Good sized and level pitches, excellent facilities, with nice countryside walks close by. Lovely little village shop for top-ups within walking distance. Well lit at night with each pitch having a motion sensor light. Our electric hookup was right behind us so the wire wasn’t getting run over by cars.
The campsite is surrounded by fields so we saw a lot of wildlife such as deers and owls every day.

Non mi è piaciuto For the last 2 days, there wasn’t any toilet rolls in either cubicle, however we had our own. The hand dryer wasn’t very powerful but we had our own towels to dry our hands so not a huge problem.

All in all, it was a great campsite.

Mi è piaciuto The neat flat pitches and dividing hedges,which were kept nice.The facilities were dated but very clean.

Non mi è piaciuto I think when the site is full,two showers and two toilets in both men and women's,isn't really adequate.

Trimmed grass and hedges. Nice clean shower and toilet block that was cleaned everyday. room with washing machines and fridges with big sinks for washing up . Notice board with map of area and a co op less than ten minutes away . Owner very nice bloke .

Mi è piaciuto Great site, very clean and well looked after, hot showers and clean everyday.
Super quiet, we loved our stay here very relaxing just listening to bird song.
We will return as its only an hour from us. Great campsite we loved it, first time we had taken our dog in the tent, wanted to see how she got on, she didnt want to come home either this morning!.
Well worth the visit, thankyou James for all your hard work in keeping the site lovely.

Pub was nice too.

Non mi è piaciuto Showers. No where to put clothes and the shower button works on sensor so goes off when your drying yourself. Needs a curtain to separate .

Thank you for taking the time to review. However, I'm not sure that you are talking about our campsite... As our showers are not on a sensor, they are switched on my a manual dial. Also each shower cubicle has a drying area separated by a shower curtain and there are plenty of hooks to hang up clothes to keep them dry.
And, we don't have a pub in the village.

Woodbridge (10 minutes’ drive) is a good place to get your bearings – it’s got lots of independent shops and cafés to try out, and the Woodbridge Tide Mill Museum to visit. It’s also on the banks of the River Deben, so you could take a waterside walk, join a boat trip or simply select a pub for a scenic pint. The town is on the edge of the Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape, so there are plenty of places for a walk nearby. Rendlesham Forest (15 minutes) is a particularly intriguing one, with a UFO trail giving an insight into some spottings here back in the 1980s. If it’s the ‘coast’ part of the name that grabs your interest, head to Orford Ness National Nature Reserve (25 minutes) for wildlife and war remnants, or visit the smart town of Aldeburgh (half an hour). For other days out, try National Trust - Sutton Hoo (15 minutes), Framlingham Castle (20 minutes) or shopping and cultural events at Snape Maltings (20 minutes).
