Pub grub, canoeing on the river Waveney and waterside wanders might very well make up some of your stay at The Red Lion in the Waveney Valley. With dog-friendly and family-friendly pitches in the grounds of a traditional country pub (where dogs are permitted in the outside area only), this site is not just for the foodies, although it certainly scores highly on that front thanks to its classic menu of pub grub. The site is 10 minutes’ drive away from a couple of museums (aviation and World War II included) and canoe hire for the river Waveney, which runs through the valley. In fact, the site is just 10 minutes’ stroll away from the riverbank, where you can walk right onto the Angles Way, a 93-mile trail along the riverside. On site, there’s an amenities block with a toilet, shower room and an outside washing-up area handy that's handy for dealing with barbecue aftermath. There’s a playground here where kids can run off any excess energy, perhaps while you supervise from over a pint in the pub’s outdoor seating. For snacks and that sort of thing, Harleston’s selection of supermarkets is five minutes’ drive away from the site. Handily, there’s a local bus route that runs past the outside of the pub, so it should be easy enough to get around the surrounding area. Please note the pub's opening hours: it is closed on Mondays, open between 12pm and 3pm on Tuesday through to Sunday and open in evenings from 5.30pm to 8pm for food (and until 10pm for drinks) on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Mi è piaciuto This is our second visit this year and it was a lovely stay. Everyone is really helpful and the pitch was perfect. The pub is great too and amazingly busy for Sunday lunch.

Dal gestore: Toilets are cleaned twice daily!!!!!….. unfortunately I can’t be responsible for the way that the toilets are left by other campers!!!!…. Plus at no point during your stay did you say anything to any member of staff who would’ve sorted any issues for you!!!! To complain after you have left does not sort the issues you have had while you are here!!!! We can fix or sort or clean up after others IF WE ARE TOLD AT THE TIME!!!!!…. Try complaining at the time if you have an issue as most things can be easily resolved but sadly not after the fact

Mi è piaciuto The staff were incredible. As soon as we turned up they were happy to let us pick which spot we wanted, explained where everything was etc.

When we visited the pub for drinks and food they made a great amount of effort to speak to the kids and make sure they were happy!

The toilet/showers were clean every time we visited.

We will definitely visit again.

Non mi è piaciuto Other guests in a group of pitches with 4 barking dogs going at it from early in the morning to late at night. No fault of the site just other inconsiderate guests.

Mi è piaciuto The layout of the campsite. The owner Mike was very accommodating and always there if you need him. Toilets and shower was always clean. The washing up sink/space is ample. The food in the Redlion pub was absolutely lovely. Friendly and helpful staff.

Mi è piaciuto Great little campsite with everything you need during your stay and a play park for the children.

Greeted on arrival with a smooth check in and choice of pitch.

Toilets and showers were clean with plenty of loo roll ect.

Really lovely country walks from the campsite.

Non mi è piaciuto The pub itself was very busy and we waited a longtime for our food despite booking prior.

I requested an adult size portion of Macaroni cheese which was declined so had to have a children’s portion. Minor issue but it was my birthday so annoying.

Activities on the river Waveney might have already given you a taste for the water… and if that’s the case, you can’t go far wrong with a beach day. While the valley scenery might suggest otherwise, the coast is within driving distance and that includes Southwold beach (45 minutes' drive), a sandy stretch with an amusement arcade on the pier and good windsurfing conditions, and Aldeburgh beach (55 minutes), known for its tasty fish and chips. Those of you who have kids fond of animals, Banham Zoo (half an hour) might be one afternoon out to add to the itinerary, while Camel Park Oasis (15 minutes) is another with camels in the limelight. And for a place with play areas and farm animals, Easton Farm Park (35 minutes) is your guy. To switch things up with a history-geared visit, you’ll have your pick of a few places, including the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum (10 minutes), The 100th Bomb Group Memorial Museum (10 minutes) for historical accounts of American involvement in World War II and Bressingham Steam & Gardens (25 minutes) for a steam museum and gardens… or steam train trip of your own aboard one of the trains that are in action.
