Founded by Charles Wicksteed, the inventor of modern day play equipment such as the slide and the swing, the park was part of his vision to inspire and encourage play as part of families' health and well-being.
It has just completed a Heritage Lottery Fund-backed £3million project that has restored the park’s lake to its former glory.
New for 2016 there is the new Wickys Play Factory indoor play area, a sand and water play area, the Woolloomooloo walk-through aviary and the new Snakes and Ladders covered freefall dropslide for the ultimate thrill-seekers.
You can also enjoy the trills of the new RUSH zipwire and activity tower.
RUSH has a top speed of 40mph, is as high as a six-storey building and 310metres long and comprises three zip wires to allow families and friends to take the plunge together.
The park has been given a Certificate of Excellence by Trip Advisor - the world’s largest travel site - for being one of the UK’s top places to go for a day out, based on visitor ratings.
It also boasts some of the oldest thrill rides in the UK, including the water chute, which first opened in 1926 – and the Wicksteed Park railway, which takes visitors around the park and is the most popular narrow-gauge railway in the country.
There are also top quality camping facilities and the opportunity to stay in a luxury lodge in the heart of 147 acres of stunning parkland.
The entrance to Wicksteed Park is off Barton Road, Kettering, Northamptonshire, NN15 6NJ – minutes away from the A14, with easy access to the M1 and A1.
