We chose a secluded spot about 200 metres away from a group of 4 or so mohos and tents. This soon grew to about 15 units in a circle with a generator running etc.

Chose a nice area by the river with nobody close by. A bit later, a big group of about 4 or 5 families decided to pitch up next to us (why?). Couldn’t be bothered to move again wish we had though. Music until 2 am.
Thing is there’s loads of space here and we didn’t know that everyone chooses the riverside pitches. Choose carefully, not by the river, go to the other side of the fields if you want to be in peace.

What a waste / missed opportunity the Oast houses are. Beautiful buildings all run down, closed up and messy. It’s a major historic landmark but it’s a mess.
And as for the pub (Brewers Fare) - we went there at 9:15 on a Friday in July and it was “we’re closed and no dogs allowed”.
The whole place is lawless (too big?) but if you choose your pitch carefully, it’s good.

Due to the infrastructure there is only one place to put the two toilet and shower blocks, for those choosing to be in a quieter field it is a long walk. Some guests bring toilet tents for when it is too late or dark to walk to them.

We chose a hardstanding pitch in C field with electric and water and a lovely view of the grass areas. Shower block was modern ,clean and nearby.
While we were there which was midweek we walked to the river Medway, ate in the Brewers Fayre pub and caught the hourly no 6 bus into Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells from the farm entrance.

The Shires Oast also in one of the Oast houses is open for food and drinks on a weekend and not too far to walk, they welcome well behaved dogs both inside and in their garden. Unfortunately the museums, farm and play park closed at the beginning of 2023.
