Snow place like glamping this winter…
Nov 17 2011 Posté par Lewis Shields
Leaving the guy ropes and groundsheets behind, a recent poll by Pitchup.com has indicated that this winter more than half of UK campers and caravanners are after a cosy glamping break in a yurt with a wood-burning stove. However, nearly 30% of respondents are willing to brave chilly nights under canvas as long as their sleeping bags are filled with hot water bottles.
More worrying are the lengths some individuals are prepared to go to keep warm on their winter break, as more than a tenth of respondents are willing to follow in the footsteps of intrepid adventurer, Bear Grylls, and shelter from the storm inside a camel carcass…
All sensibility is not lost however, as British nostalgia sets in and 62% of UK campers and caravanners vote hot chocolate the winter tipple of choice for the great outdoors. 33% of respondents believe this is best accompanied by the aroma of wood-smoke, but cinnamon and spices was the favourite wintery smell, preferred by nearly half.
Camping and caravanning hasn’t escaped the eyes of the fashionistas. Kitted out in their Hunter wellingtons and Barbour clothing, nearly 50% of respondents said their favourite activity was to be the first out and leaving frosty footprints on wintery walks. The winter season also encourages short breaks to market towns and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as 20% of campers and caravanners set off to explore an area of the UK previously unvisited.
