Somerset Reindeer Ranch

A aimé : We arrived just after storm Ciaran, there was lots of flooding on the surrounding roads. Reindeer Ranch was a bit soggy too. But the hosts were great, and very accommodating and helpful, we used the bbq lodge to cook on an open fire, it was great and very cosy. It was lovely to see the well cared for animals about the site, and in the stables. Loved the magical lights. Very friendly hosts, we will return.

A aimé : Friendly reception, animals all around and a well built lodge. We stayed in the reindeer lodge for the evening cooking on the open fire. We were warm and comfortable and had a great evening.

A aimé : I enjoyed seeing the animals around the farm, they were all cute and friendly.

N'a pas aimé: The place where I was put for setting up my tent was over grown and not appropriate for camping. I was dumped there and didn’t see anyone, up until i left I still didn’t see anyone that worked there. It was like I was alone there. The shower smelt of pee, I’m not sure if it was of rats or cats. When I left my clothes on the side, when I picked them up they smelt of pee.

Réponse du gestionnaire : Glad you liked the animals on the farm, sorry you didn’t like the secluded pitch you were guided up there by the friendly owner and given privacy and seclusion which is the purpose of this “wild camping pitch”(secluded) Many campers book this as they want to be by themselves and enjoy their own company. It is not overgrown it is surrounded by trees and is a safe quiet, spot of cut grass ( as advertised) set back from the main site. The owners are about but do not bother the campers especially when they book the secluded camping pitch so there is no need to see workers. There was a walkie talky by the bar which you were welcome to contact us on at any point and we would have joined you for a chat any time you liked had you only asked. You were alone, lucky you, you travelled alone and did not express any wish to spend time with us, the owners or invite a friend in. Regarding the shower, our other guests when stayed this week gave is 10/10 for cleanliness and at no point have we ever had rats or cats in the shower. It smells of the lavender and jasmine planted outside of it. Had you spoken with us about your issue while you were here we could have addressed your comments, as you have left and written a scathing review all I can deduce is that perhaps your clothes would benefit from a wash irrespective of whether your visit a campsite or not. The last thing I said to you, with a smile, was I hope you have a lovely stay please call me or radio me if I can be of any assistance…. What a shame you chose to attempt to damage a small business’s reputation instead of be personable enough to have a face to face chat. A cheap pitch fee of £30 for the opportunity to see reindeer, emus, wolves, ponies, pigs, Spanish horses, donkey, skunks and. a beautifully lit site with flowers and gardens does not warrant a low score for value for money. We hope the next site you stay with suits your requirements better and wish you the best.

A aimé : We liked the animals being so close and accessable, the hospitality, the layout and features of the place, and the Ocean pod which we stayed in.

A aimé : We arrived to a quirky, unusual site, and a very warm welcome. The site is tiny, any is in the middle of a reindeer/horse/donkey/turkey/all kinds of other animals sanctuary! There is a single motorhome plot, with electric hook up, a lovely decking next to it for the kids to play on, and a farm that our daughter could entirely immerse herself in. The fact that the owner has made a fairy escape was all the more enchanting for a 9 year old who wants to believe in magic!. what was even better was that within a matter of 2 minutes, our daughter had joined forces with another little girl, and 2 other boys, and that was it for the duration.... they spent their 2 days there visiting the animals, making up fairy rituals, and generally keeping themselves busy. It was all we could do to tear them away at the end of the stay. The fairy dell with a swing kept them busy for hours, and the fact that the owners also run a cocktail bar in the evening meant we could get drinks, chat with the other (few) parents who were there, and generally relax. I dont think my daughter came back to the van before 10pm either night! We will definitely revisit, and left with phone numbers of other parents, and friendships struck. It was lovely. Even better, they had a visiting artist, who brought with pottery figures, so the kids could also paint and do arts and crafts. I am told that he does various things each day, and is often there.

N'a pas aimé: If i had to find fault, i would say that the toilet block needs a little expansion. Its basic, but very clean, and the showers were great, but with only 2 toilets, one of which is shared with the shower, it does mean mornings can be a little busy. One extra loo would make all the difference. To be honest, i didnt have to wait at any point more than a couple of minutes, but as i say, one more toilet would solve that. The washing up also only had cold water, but i believe that the hot was being sorted imminently. The owners were clearly working very hard not just to sort out anything that wasnt working, but also improve the site... and the negatives were not something that would make me hesitate about returning.

A aimé : The relaxed feel. Open fires, bar and animals for the children to stroke and feed. The children were super excited to stay in a fairy pod.

N'a pas aimé: A bit confusing on the website- we didn’t realise there would be a bed in the pod meaning we were one air bed short. We made it work.

A aimé : This is definitely not your average campsite. As soon as we arrived Sarah showed us round introducing us to her menagerie of animals, pigs, donkey, emus, reindeers, miniature wolves and the most beautiful white horses. Sarah and David couldn’t have been more welcoming and we had our own private decking in a secluded campervan spot. At night we had a barbecue and at 8 o’clock the place lit up with fairy lights turning it into a magical wonderland.
