Coast, countryside and a cosy pub all rolled into one location? Head to north Devon and it’s all there at The Pig on the Hill, a family-run gastropub just outside Westward Ho!
The single motorhome pitch here makes an excellent base for exploring this area – Westward Ho!’s two-mile sandy beach and surf school are less than a mile away, as is the South West Coast Path for seaside strolls. You’ll also be able to get out for rural walks easily enough, as there’s lots of green space nearby – and to help you get started, the team have come up with a couple of suggested routes starting and ending at the pub.
Whether you’ve chosen sea views or country wanders, you can finish up back at the pub with a drink from the bar and/or dinner from the weekly blackboard menu showcasing the best local, seasonal produce (dinner served Wednesday to Saturday). Lunch is also available from Wednesday to Friday, with a tempting brunch menu on Saturdays and a classic roast on a Sunday. (Please note the pub is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.)
The friendly welcome, tasty food and excellent location are just part of the deal here though – you’ll also be getting a top-quality pitch that’s spacious and fenced in to give you privacy and security. Water and electric hookups are provided, and there’s a lovely private outdoor space with a barbecue, picnic table, deckchairs and – to top things off – a private hot tub.
Kids and dogs are welcome to join you for a stay here – there’s a play area for the youngsters and plenty of scope to walk dogs nearby.

Attractions à proximité
Lovely Westward Ho! is a great place to spend a few days, strolling along its two-mile sandy beach, taking a dip in its sea pool and taking advantage of the waves for some surfing or kitesurfing (lessons and kit hire are available by the beach). You may also like to play a round at the The Royal North Devon Golf Club or wander through Northam Burrows Country Park (both about 10 minutes’ drive away).
Elsewhere along the coast there are lots of super places to visit, including the cute village of Appledore (10 minutes’ drive) and the huge beach at Saunton Sands (35 minutes). There are also plenty of walks along the South West Coast Path and scenic bike rides on the Tarka Trail from Barnstaple (20 minutes).
If the kids have been well behaved, perhaps they’ll have earned a day at The Big Sheep (three minutes) or The Milky Way Adventure Park (15 minutes); the latter is also next door to North Devon Wake Park for some watersports action.
