What brings you to the Bude area? Coast walks and surf beaches are usually the main draws – and you’ll be well placed for both of those when you stay at Bude Camping and Caravanning Club Site, a couple of miles inland from the north Cornish coast. Set within the Cornwall National Landscape, this is a peaceful and scenic spot with lovely countryside views all around. And it’s a handy one too, with direct access from the A39 (no little winding lanes to get here…). Bude itself is about 15 minutes’ drive away, with some of the country’s best surfing beaches, plus surf schools, a seawater swimming pool and family-friendly beach space too. Closer to home is Crackington Haven (10 minutes’ drive), for another beach and access to the spectacular walks of the South West Coast Path. There are lots more great beaches to seek out along this stretch of coast too – or you can mix it up by throwing in outings to places like Tintagel Castle and the Hidden Valley adventure park, or going inland for walks on Bodmin Moor. This site is managed by the Camping and Caravanning Club, with both members and non-members welcome; there’s a reduced rate for members though, so make sure you select the correct membership status on your booking. The well-kept and well-spaced pitches here have access to a good range of essential facilities including a shop, a launderette and a chemical disposal point as well as bathrooms with accessible and parent-and-baby facilities. A play area and dog walk area are also on hand to keep kids and dogs happy.

Beach time top of your wishlist? Start with a trip to Crackington Haven (10 minutes’ drive), where the sandy beach has rockpools and is flanked by soaring 120-metre cliffs. The beaches of Bude (15 minutes) must be next, especially if you’re a surfer (or want to be). Lessons and kit hire are available for those who need them – and there’s a sea pool for swimmers who don’t fancy the waves. Elsewhere along the coast you could drop in to The Museum of Witchcraft and Magic (15 minutes) or walk in King Arthur’s legendary footsteps at Tintagel Castle (20 minutes). Also close to the site are the silly fun of Monster Slip and Slide Bude (10 minutes) and the chance to dip into history at Davidstow Airfield and Cornwall at War Museum (10 minutes). For something a bit different, turn inland and head to Bodmin Moor (15 minutes) for atmospheric walks, try the maze and miniature railway at Hidden Valley (20 minutes) or make your way to Launceston (25 minutes) to visit the castle and ride the steam railway.
