N'a pas aimé To be honest 1st no bbq yes he put one there to uesd but there was about 10 others to ues it..2nd very cold showers. 3nd the toilet smell so bad there was blood over one of the toilet sets, 4 the nose last night then again very early this morning I just couldn't do it i had to leave 1day before so paid for 3 night only stay 2. the man of the sit was rude and not caring. my poor son was put off ever going camping again everything was bad

Réponse du gestionnaire : Dear Anna, That toilet was never like that when you got there, it was the only one that was full after a full site on a Saturday night. I PERSONALLY CLEANED ALL THE TOILETS MYSELF BOTH SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. The other 9 toilets were practically empty some not even used. Unfortunately some guests get over zealous with sawdust and paper, if it was a problem at the time you only had to contact us and it would have been dealt with. The toilets are checked twice daily. You complained about the fire ban which is country wide set by the fire brigade, it specifically states on Pitchup that fires will not be allowed in super dry conditions, you complained about the noise of someone using an electric pump to pump up airbeds which you will get on any camp site. You stated it is your first camping trip, maybe camping is not for you. I went out and spent £250 on a gas bbq specifically for you and others to use. You even apologised for your outburst siting stress from your kids. At the time you was there two other families used the bbq for 45 minutes between them. It is not really our responsibility to arrange your cooking arrangements.

N'a pas aimé Only gripe is a lot of the firepits were in middle of pitch,so making it awkward to get camper and awning in,we're told not to move firepits

Réponse du gestionnaire : Wir weisen deutlich darauf hin, dass wir ein autarker Campingplatz ohne Stromanschluss sind – gelegen auf einer rund 4,8 Hektar großen Wiese direkt an der Themsemündung. Und dennoch bewerten Sie uns deswegen negativ? Wenn Sie Strom benötigt hätten, wäre es wohl ratsam gewesen, einen Platz mit Stromanschluss zu buchen. Mir ist schleierhaft, wie Sie darauf kommen konnten, dass der Platz anders sein würde als beschrieben. Wie dem auch sei – alles Gute. 😐
We clearly point out that we are an off-grid campsite without electrical hookups—situated on a meadow of approximately 4.8 hectares right by the Thames Estuary. And yet, you leave us a negative review because of this? If you needed electricity, it would surely have been advisable to book a site with an electrical connection. It is beyond me how you could have expected the site to be anything other than described. In any case—all the best. 😐

A aimé Well laid out, nice and secure, very quiet and secluded, CoOp nearby, good clean facilities, good off grid like experience. Saw bats flying through the site.

N'a pas aimé Now these aren’t related to the campsite which is lovely, but it’s worth noting:
- not much shelter so when it’s hot it HOT, when it’s windy it really is!
- Coalhouse for is not open to view, lovely walk around and crabbing though.
- off-grid = very poor mobile coverage. Download your maps!

A aimé So i stayed here with my sister for just one night, we travelled via public transport with rucksacks on our backs, suitcases and NO car.

It is a nicely maintained, small quiet campsite. No one bothers you and all the gates are secured nicely with chains. There is a picnic bench on every pitch which we were greatful for, as we didnt bring tables and chairs of our own and a fire pit The washing up facilities are basic but do the job, and the fresh drinking water is cold. There is plenty of accesable green land if you like walking and fields full of horses and cows which is nice

We recieved good communication from staff before arrival and they provided handy shopping baskets at the entrance to carry fire wood down to your pitch which you could buy on site.

N'a pas aimé The things we didnt like, is that it is a long walk from the station and another long walk from the entrance to the pitch, the shops are more then a mile away up hill, so this campsite is not ideal without a car. I would have liked to see a small shop on site that sells essentials- fire lighters, cold drinks, matches, gas, fairy liquid, etc

The ground on the pitches was also very hard and cracked, so strong tent pegs are needed here. We didnt like the composting toilets they stunk!
The only other grumble I have is that you can hear the noisy boats being next to the docks all night so I only got 3 hours sleep 😆

I wouldn't usually comment to a review like this but... We are an off grid campsite and I am positive you would complain if we were to be next to the railway line? It is a 12 acre site and most comments we get is how they are pleased it is not next to the road. The cost of staffing a shop on site would not pay as most bring there own supply. The co op is a 15 minute walk from the campsite or 2/3 minute drive.
You camped during a heatwave so the ground would be hard at any site in these conditions. Most comments to the toilets are to how clean they are and well maintained.
We are a few miles from the busiest London port and the London cruise terminal. I camp at the site myself quite often and rarely find it to be a problem.
Everything about the site is clear in the booking process as to distances etc.
Really disappointed that you marked us down because we are not next to a road or railway and then again because we are next to a river.

A aimé We had a lovely stay overall. The location was beautiful, and the surrounding area was peaceful and perfect for relaxing and exploring.

N'a pas aimé The main areas for improvement would be the toilet and shower facilities, which could be better maintained.
It was also very quiet and enjoyable until a large group of school children arrived and made noise until around midnight. We had expected the campsite's quiet hours after 10pm to be enforced, so this was a little disappointing.

once or twice a year we let the Duke Of Edinburgh award scheme use a corner of the campsite but the noise rules obviously apply to everyone. If you had made it known to us about the noise at midnight we would have dealt with it.

A aimé It was clean and easy to get too. It was great to camp with a 14 months old baby.
