Have fishing rod, will travel. If your dream holiday involves sitting on the banks of a peaceful lake while casting a line, Gatton Waters Caravan Park might well be the place for you. Sitting a five-minute drive from the Norfolk village of Hillington, this adults-only site spreading over 24 acres has its own coarse-fishing lake, stocked with carp, roach, rudd, perch, bream and tench. It also has a fully-stocked bar open on weekends. While you indulge your favourite activity, the rest of your family (and the dog, who is a welcome guest here) might prefer to explore the surrounding woodlands, which is inhabited by hares and other wildlife. Speaking of wildlife, the lake itself attracts plenty of winged creatures; however, if you’re into birdwatching, you should take the half-hour drive to Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve, an area of salt marshes and sand dunes populated by terns, plovers and wintering geese. Some might prefer a day at the seaside, maybe at sandy Brancaster Beach (25 minutes) or Holkham Beach (40 minutes), or at Blakeney Point (45 minutes), which is known for its seal colony. Want to catch a spectacular Norfolk sunset? Head to Snettisham Beach (20 minutes), then get back to the site for an evening barbecue (stopping for provisions in Hillington, which has a fully stocked convenience store and a petrol station). Not in the mood for cooking? There are plenty of pubs serving locally sourced food and ales in the nearby villages. Amenities at the caravan park include ladies’ and gents’ heated shower and toilet blocks, and a washing-up area, as well as electric hook-up, chemical disposal, wifi and charging and recycling facilities.

A aimé Great place and lovely views of the lake. Good dog walking too. Very friendly. Shame we couldn’t stay longer. Clean toilet blocks.

N'a pas aimé Windows were open in shower and toilet block. This unfortunately let mosquitoes in and put me off showering!

A aimé The site is lovely and the grounds are well maintained.

N'a pas aimé The ladies showers (didnt see the mens) are outdated. One shower worked for about 3 minutes and turned off completely with just a dribble of water, i had to transfer all of my things and with my shampooed hair move to the one next to me.

A aimé Gatton Waters is a brilliant site - from spotless facilities, large pitches, a superb on-site bar (incredible value - large wine £5.50, pint of Level Head £4.70) and staff that can't do enough for you.

Wi-fi works smoothly across the entire site and the pub has plenty of books/games/etc. to keep you entertained if you want a digital detox.

We planned on walking into Hillington to catch the bus to Kings Lynn but got our timings wrong, and the staff were kind enough to give us a lift to the bus stop without asking.

Sadly had some weather related issues, but Mark was brilliant and helped to discard of our broken kit without fuss and made sure everything was fine.

There's a fab walk into Castle Rising through woodlands and fields away from the roads - a straightforward step by step guide is available to download on the website.

Will definitely be back to Gatton Waters!

N'a pas aimé Not a dislike for us - but please be aware that if you want to head out on a bus trip to Hunstanton/Kings Lynn there are limited services.

Lovely to stay on site and the fishing lake is bliss, but if you're someone that likes to get up and out you will probably need a car/rely on cabs.

A aimé We liked everything about our stay. Very welcoming. Facilities were great and the little bar was a great asset.

N'a pas aimé Water sometimes didn’t work in the shower but the site was very busy over the bank holiday so this was understandable.

A aimé Quiet , lovely clean showers and toilets , friendly staff , pizza on Friday was great , electric hook up very cheap good fishing all week husband had a 21 pound carp , 18lb , 15 lb carp aswell .

N'a pas aimé All dogs had to be kept on leads at all times , my girl didn’t like this and was very annoyed all week , although there is a dog walking field that you can let them off in , love to go back but my girl comes every where with us and likes to roam free close to us .
