Beautiful surroundings …

Only 1 toilet available for the whole site as the other toilet door was broken so that toilet was not available… very poor !!!

Hi , we were disappointed this time we stayed at your site… only one of the toilets were working as the other was jammed shut with a broken lock. The one that was working was always engaged for long periods of time.

The grounds were excellent and spotless, pitches were level and spacious. Very quiet can’t fault the site . Will definitely return.

Bins need empty more often as grown staff use them for their rubbish. An extra water point would be handy.
Also a map of ground and where you can walk to.

This place is lovely nice grounds . Carnt say the same about the staff completely uninterested. Gave the impression they just didn’t want to be there .

Wonderful setting with the pitches inside the walled garden within the extensive grounds of Paxton house. Lovely walks through woods and along the river Tweed. The cafe at Paxton house provided excellent homemade food during the daytime.

This site has the potential to be an excellent one once some issues have been addressed. We stayed for a week over the August bank holiday and on the busy days it was nearly full. When we checked in at the house which is a distance away from the walled garden we were not given a pitch number but told to pitch up wherever we wanted. The receptionist told us that we didn’t even have to come back to let them know which pitch we were on. When we arrived at the pitches we saw that there was a sign written commercial van on one of the pitches even though the pitch up website and Paxton House t&c s said that they were not permitted. We also noted that some people allowed their small dogs to run off the leash. I got the feeling that there was a lack of staff and no one was responsible for looking after the walled garden camp site. The site has 2 toilets/shower rooms that is not publicised on the pitch up booking website. This was an unexpected bonus but unfortunately one of the toilet doors had a faulty lock and once reported to reception it was locked up completely and therefore out of use for from our 2nd day onwards. That meant that there was one toilet/shower for 30 pitches. This toilet/shower room quickly became dirty and smelly due to the high use and lack of daily cleaning. I know that it was a bank holiday but there needed to be more staff on cleaning duty. General waste is placed in a large dumpster but this quickly filled up and was not emptied during our stay. Consequently there were bags of waste/rubbish piling up beside the dumpster.

We had a lovely stay .and would recommend this site to anyone .we will be back .the walks on the grounds are wonderful .and interesting to see .with all the little adventures on the way .walled garden with fruit was lovely .we will be returning soon again thank you and staff are friendly on the arrival of your stay .

Nothing to dislike

Lovely quiet site. Well kept hard standing pitches within the old walled garden. The gardens and grounds of Paxton House are free to look round for those staying on the site, and well worth a visit. Pay if you want to look round the house. The staff at the house are great. Easy access to Berwick upon Tweed and Lindisfarne Island. Would definitely recommend for a stay.

Not exactly a 'dislike', but someone on site needs to get a grip with looking after the facilities. The one toilet/shower (other one closed all four days we were there), needs cleaning regularly. Not cleaned in the four days we were there. A young guy turned up on the day we were leaving and simply popped his head through the door, put more toilet rolls in place, and left. That is NOT cleaning! Take flipflops if you want to shower! We never saw anyone check the site while we were there, and feel anyone could pitch up and stay without being challenged. Does anyone from Paxton House ever actually read the reviews, as not seen any replies to them? Although a small site, I think a warden taking up one pitch wouldn't go a miss. Would we stay again? Definitely.

Waste facilities adequate *

*waste bins filled quickly as appear to be used by the groundsman. Not emptied enough.
Toilet/wet rooms were not cleaned enough. Topped up with loo roll daily but not cleaned or tidied. Soap dispenser broken in 1 of the 2 rooms. Toilet seat broken in both. One room out of order for days after a child was locked in at night due to a faulty lock that had been previously reported last year and not fixed. No mop or loo-brush provided.
No after hours contact number available. No warden checks done all week.

Layout and tidyness of the site, very well maintained. Lovely large, level, hard standing, well spaced out pitches with loads of room between outfits. Facilities excellent and clean. Recycling bins. Very quiet but plenty to see and do nearby. Brilliant walks from the site and the adventure playground for the kids is brilliant. Superb pub in the village which does super meals. Will definitely be back.
