Such a lovely little campsite with the added benefit of having Downsview vineyard a 3-4 minute walk along the road. Julie was lovely, the site was well maintained with pretty views, and the toilets were clean at all times. Thank you.

Small point: We went to the neighbouring Vinyard for pizza (Friday evening) which was lovely but it would have been great if we could have cut through from the campsite rather than walk down the road.

Idle hours is a very clean and peaceful campsite. The facilities are very well maintained and the campsite owner clearly cares a lot about the site.
Fire-pits are provided at no additional charge which is a nice touch, and they are plentiful, you need to only go and pick one up. There are equally plenty of bbq style fire bowls with grills.
We checked in just before 7pm and the campsite owner was readily available at the reception caravan to the left near the entrance (clearly sign posted as reception) after parking up on the right.

Pitches are clearly labelled and you get to choose your own from the available ones. We choose one on the right hand side under the trees where we got shade from the morning sun.

Other campsite users on the whole were very respectful and there was a nice atmosphere, friendly people and everyone kept their dogs on leads.
The vast majority respected the campsites rules and policies which are very clear prior to booking as outlined on pitchup and as detailed on signs on every pitch’s and around the site.
The rules are simple, no loud noise or music after 11pm, so if you are looking for peace this campsite has it.
Unfortunately one night of our visit there was one group who didn’t care for the rule. They decided to play music, talk loudly with shrieking laughter, screaming and shouting until around 3am. Our neighbouring tent asked them to be quiet and it still continued a while longer.
It was very clear that this wasn’t the type of campsite where this was normal as other than this one group everyone was peaceful and no one even raised music or speaking levels beyond being heard outside their own pitch. This group were very disrespectful to the other campers and rude to dismiss others even when asked to keep it down.
In the morning a few people reported the noise to the campsite owner, as there is a zero tolerance policy to breaking the noise curfew, the group was asked to leave the site for the protection of other guests.
The campsite owner was well within her right to do this to maintain the peace of the campsite by removing disruptive and rude guests that were ruining the experience that others had come for and we supported her decision.
The noisy group made us feel worried about having another disturbed night sleep, we choose this campsite for a peaceful time in nature as we live in the city and find the sounds of stillness relaxing and a relief from our busy lives.
So rest assured the campsite owner works hard to maintain a peaceful atmosphere.

We got very good 5G signal at this site with o2 network.

Lastly we loved that this site is adults only, being in a campsite as an adult couple without the presence of children was perfect for us. It made the experience extra relaxing.

The biggest downside to the campsite is that there are not enough showers. It’s a reasonably sized site with a lot of guests with only one shower for men and one for women each in a single porta cabin.
There was a queue in the mornings and once inside them there is no where to put your things to keep them dry as you shower.
The water pressure and heat of the showers is great, they just need more blocks.

The campsite can feel quite exposed to the elements. We had bad weather on our visit. Torrential downpours for a long period, as the site is slightly sloped the rain didn’t cause any issues to the quality of the ground as it ran down the hill.
However when the wind came, the site is very exposed and started tearing our windbreaker down and we couldn’t have a fire on our last evening for this reason.

The location is quite remote with not too much to do nearby. You can walk to the local town and pub but it you do have to walk in the road with no footpath. However the road is quiet and this is possible if you walk with caution.

The last thing that we didn’t love, if you arrive whilst the site is busy you might end up at the end of the field on the hill. There’s quite a slope to the last few pitches, which might be uncomfortable, however the majority of pitches only have a mild slope or are on the flat.

Beautifully maintained site with clean facilities that are also well maintained. Julie was really welcoming and helpful. Other campers were respectful of the “quiet hours” and despite a few get together everyone was quiet not long after 9:30pm. The vineyard next door was an added bon. We had the most delicious pizza and enjoyed their own brown Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Highly recommend a visit to both the campsite and the vineyard.

Nothing to dislike, it’s just perfect.

Gravel road up made the arrival in rain much better than anticipated, liked the amenities, views and host, thank you for our stay
