Drive to this village for the monkeys at the topnotch sanctuary and venture to the fishing port for a wander around the old cottages too… For more animals, a deer park is at Mount Edgcumbe Country Park, 15 minutes’ drive from the inn, a spot where you can also amble along a shoreline through formal and informal gardens; grand scenery is also all around Antony House five minutes drive from site, an early 18th-century house cared for by the National Trust. Across the border, Plymouth is around 45 minutes’ drive – head here for a look at the underwater creatures at the National Marine Aquarium – or take a jaunt towards the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Centre (50 minutes) for strolls in sprawling countryside.
