- Spacious bell tents for two on the rooftop of a wellness club in Floda
- A 25-minute drive from central Gothenburg; Nääs Castle five minutes
- Views over the Säveån with swimming access; breakfast available
Start the day with a lake swim, then eat your breakfast on the deck while looking out over the river… doesn’t that sound like a pretty lovely way to get going in the morning?
This is often how things tend to go at The Tannery Club, where bell tents have been set up on the roof of a wellness club in Floda, overlooking the Säveån nature reserve and Gotaleden. On that same terrace are several tables looking out over the surrounding greenery, where you can have breakfast delivered (for an extra charge) or sort out your own meals. (And that swim? That’s achievable by using the club’s bathing jetty on the Säveån.)
Accommodation is in canvas tents at the back of the club’s sauna area, on a rooftop with lovely river views. The bell tents are all made of sturdy waterproof canvas and designed for two people sleeping in a queensize (160cm) bed. There’s no need to crouch down inside the tent, either – each one has a standing height of 190 centimetres so most people should be able to stand upright.
There’s no electricity in the tents, but they have lighting in the form of battery-powered LED lights, and you can charge phones at reception if you wish. Showers and toilets are just next to the access stairwell and available at all times with a door code.
As for how to entertain yourselves, you might like to buy a day pass to access all of the club’s activities including forest running sessions, yoga and the climbing wall, or you may like to head out into the local area for rural rambles and bike rides. At the end of it all, there are several restaurants and a grocery shop in the centre of Floda, about 10 minutes’ walk away.

Local attractions
An elegant mansion with splendidly preserved 19th-century interiors, Nääs Castle (five minutes’ drive) can be visited only as part of a guided tour (in Swedish, though English-language tours can be pre-booked). The extensive grounds include areas of woodland and a lookout tower, and there’s also a riding school.
Overlooking the Kattegat Strait, Gothenburg (25 minutes) is where the famed Volvo brand was born. You can learn all about it at the Volvo Museum, which displays vintage cars, as well as trucks and aircraft engines. For something completely different, head to the Liseberg amusement park, where a Ferris wheel gives you far-reaching views of the city.
Green areas at Gunnebo Palace (half an hour) include a formal garden dotted with sculptures and viewpoints, as well as two kitchen gardens supplying the restaurant with vegetables and herbs. Guided tours of the house take you into exquisitely decorated halls.
