  • Well-maintained family site just over a mile from Tywyn
  • In the Snowdonia National Park half an hour's drive from Dolgellau
  • Access to woodland walks and fishing on the Dysynni river
Calling all walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers, beachgoers… there's a lovely base for all of you at Ynysymaengwyn Caravan and Camping Park, in the grounds of a ruined old manor house in rural Gwynedd, just over a mile from Tywyn and its beach. This is a peaceful spot indeed for a break, as the pitches are surrounded by woodland where you can head out for walks (with your dog by your side if you’ve brought them along for the ride) or follow the orienteering course for a bit more of a challenge. There's also an adventure playground to keep the kids busy, plus access to the Dysynni river at the bottom of the site for anglers to fish for salmon and trout. This is a park that likes to keep things simple and relaxed rather than providing lots of entertainment, but it’s got all the essential facilities sorted including a launderette, an Elsan point and toilets and showers with accessible facilities. The location of the park is at the southern tip of the Snowdonia National Park and very close to the coast, so there’s no shortage of things to do – whether you’d like hardcore hiking or something rather more gentle. And you shouldn’t go hungry either, as Tywyn has a good collection of places to eat including cafés, chip shops, takeaways and restaurants. The town also has a supermarket and bakery if you’d rather sort your own meals back at base or pick up picnic bits.

Electric optional grass tent pitch (maximum 4-berth)

Liked Campsite is a very nice and friendly site . Some nice walks available from site. The majority of the site was well lit. Covered cleaning area with lots of hot water. Majority of pitches are flat and level . Well worth a visit

Disliked Shower block was good but could benefit from an upgrade. However perfectly acceptable. Suggested: a squeegee in each shower cubicle. One of the showers had poor water pressure , in combination of push button water made for an irritating shower experience. They were all hot though .

Liked Loved it all! The showers and toilets were clean and the shower was nice and hot. The fairy garden was lovely and magical, the woods were so lovely and peaceful to walk around. The children’s park was perfect and plenty to do. Nice well kept site. Tywyn prom, beach and front was lovely also! Happy kids and happy adults. Will be a regular!

Disliked Nothing at all!
But maybe a little shop on site would be a nice finish to an amazing site!

Electric optional grass tent pitch (maximum 4-berth)

Liked The open space of which we were camped in. Although it was busy it was very quite as there is lots of room for all campers.

Toilets and showers are kept very clean and tidy, with plenty of hot water for showers. Two massive sinks outside the toilet block to wash up your cooking utensils and pans, with washing up liquid available if needed.

Lots of fresh water taps located all over the site.

Finally, great dog walks on the site with short paths to the main Forrest areas.

Electric optional grass tent pitch (maximum 6-berth)

Liked Clean shower and toilet block
Good washing up station
Clean park as a whole
Great play area for kids
Close to Tywyn

Disliked Kids riding bikes between and behind tents. No signs near the back to say there is a pathway and trail.
First time using the tent and it was ripped by a child riding through the guy lines. Luckily their parents agreed to pay for our tent and when it happened the second time the owner of the site was very apologetic and gave us a refund of a nights stay.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked Really good site. Cannot fault it. Warm welcome and introduction on arrival.
The kids loved exploring woods and its walks, walled garden, and fairy glen. We chose the perfect pitch close to the entrance to the woods. The new kids play area entertained my 2 for hours and gave them the opportunity to make new friends.
Facilities are good but it amazes me how fellow campers leave the toilets after use but every morning they were spotless and fresh again. One of the showers in the men’s shower room was poor compared to the other two with low water pressure (the one in the middle) the other two were fine. We will be back before the end of the year!

Local attractions

As well as being your nearest source of food, Tywyn’s a great little seaside town with a sandy beach, miniature golf, pitch and putt and tennis courts. It’s also the starting point for the Talyllyn Railway, which runs into the countryside for a scenic ride – a particularly nice way to do it is to ride to Dolgoch and walk to its waterfall before a cuppa in the tea rooms. Walkers may like to set out on the Wales Coast Path or head inland for a wander along the shores of Tal-y-llyn lake (15 minutes’ drive), scramble up the slopes of Penygader (20 minutes) or head to the walking hub of Dolgellau (half an hour) to explore the trails around there. Mountain bikers, meanwhile, will no doubt want to tackle the trails of Coed-y-Brenin (45 minutes) while birdwatchers learn about the residents of Dyfi Osprey Project (half an hour). Once you’ve spent some time on the sands of Tywyn, head a little further along the coast to explore the dunes of Ynyslas Nature Reserve and see the petrified forest at Borth (both 45 minutes).
