Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

Pen Y Bont is a beautifully kept, super clean campsite with modern, spotless facilities (heated floors in showers!). Staff are friendly and helpful. It's in a prime spot, close to Bala Lake and town. Spacious pitches and a peaceful vibe make it highly recommended. Minor road noise on some pitches and occasional Wi-Fi glitches were noted, but overall, guests loved it.

Liked Lovely large pitch with electric hookup, water tap and free WiFi which is always a bonus as a lot of sites charge daily rates which we personally find unacceptable in this day and age.
Very friendly team at the campsite and great clean hot shower cubicle with separate wasbasins to shave in, also heated floors.
Situated right on the lakes edge with great views this place is well worth a visit anytime of the year.
The village of Bala was equally as nice with a couple of pubs but have to say the Goat in was very friendly and exceptionally cheap for premium lager and a glass of wine only £7.35 this is well over £10 back home in Hoghton so we were well impressed even though I questioned the cost but was informed it was correct 👍 😀 we will definitely visit this campsite again in the future.

Liked Fantastic site! The owner was lovely and welcoming upon arrival and takes the time to show you the site and where to find things. The site was extremely clean with modern and fantastic facilities. Everything was kept on top of. We had an XL pitch which catered for our 5 berth caravan, awing and car! The site is a stones throw from the lake and a 10 minute walk into Bala village. Plenty of beautiful sites and sceneries, spoiling you for choice on where to walk. We'd absolutely book to stay here again.

Liked Beautiful clean site with fabulous facilities, sone of tge best we've seen. This is in a fantastic location with only a 5 min walk to the lake and about a 15 min stroll into the little Town. Would definitely recommend.

Superb shower rooms warm lots of shelving and hooks ,washing up facilities and toilets all kept immaculately clean .
Easy waking distance of Bala and only noise in the evenings were owls

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
