  • Family-owned Snowdonia site near the shore of Bala Lake
  • A short walk to watersports, boat hire and Bala Lake Railway
  • Within walking distance of Bala’s shops, restaurants and golf course
Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

Branwen shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: We stayed in Branden. It was amazing. Clean, cosy with welcome tea and coffee. We are definitely planning to return to the lovely site and that says a lot for someone who has never camped before.

Disliked: All great

From the manager: Thank you very much for your kind words Barbara, it is always nice to hear positive things about our glamping huts and we are so happy that you enjoyed your stay with us. we look forward to seeing you again in the future,

Electric grass tent pitch (medium)

Liked: The site was impeccably clean with all the amenities you could hope for. The staff were so welcoming and helpful and the views incredible. It is set up really well for camper vans with large pitches for tents and smaller ones, all with electric hook ups. This is a perfect site for families or those looking for more community and friendly neighbours.

Disliked: We felt it was a little misleading, as it said it was on the lake which it isn’t. It’s only a 10 minute walk so not the worst thing but we had hoped to be on the lakeside as we had been with another site. We were in a lovely pitch and this wasn’t anything the staff could have influenced but we were kept awake long into the early hours by loud music from the glamping and the gents right next to us. We were looking for a sedate campsite and unfortunately this wasn’t the site for that.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and glad that you liked the layout of the site and the fact that we take pride in our amenities. It is unfortunate that you were kept awake until late as when the warden was around at 10.30pm all was well but if you would have told the staff in the morning, it would have been dealt with, unfortunatley we cannot do anything after the event. I am not sure where you have seen that we advertise that we are a camping site on the lake as we are obviously not and we do say that we are a 2 minute walk from the lake ( by the sailing club ) but you just might have misread that.

Kind Regards

Electric grass tent pitch (medium)

Liked: I liked how clean the site was and how friendly and helped staff were. The site is convenient to Bala town and lake. Easily accessible with a 10 minute walk where you can access shops, cafes and pubs. The lake is a great day out especially when the weather is nice.

Disliked: Only complaint I have is we had some very noisy campers next to us and the road at the back of the site could be noisy at times in the night when trying to sleep.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking time to leave us a review, we're so glad you enjoyed your time with us apart from the campers next door and i do you will give us another try very soon!

8M fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The place was spotless and everything was perfect. The location was picturesque and close to the lake. The lady introduced us to the pitch and kindly assisted with any issues we had.

Disliked: The shop was not open all day. We were looking to see if there was a dog bowl we could purchase.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review - we're so glad you enjoyed your stay with us.

The shop is open 9am-5pm but on the rare occasion we do have to close the shop during the day, our phone number is always on the door to contact us and we will come straight down to help - we're usually just on site cleaning the glamping units or amenity block.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (large)

Liked: Beautiful site in a lovely location , Nice toilet/shower block and good facilities, friendly helpful staff (Janice was brill) pitches looked like they just been done, was on a fully serviced pitch and it was lovely and level , all connections in right place.
Mobile signal was good on my EE phone and on my Vodafone mobile wifi device, though I couldn't get a tv signal at all... very short walk to Bala village , and the massive lake. and a reasonably short drive to Coed Y Brenin forest park , my favourite place to go mountain biking.
really nice campsite , would definitely go again.

Disliked: pitch was near road, some road noise, but not terrible
aggregate used on pitch is large , so awning pegs don't stay in , wasn't windy, so had no issues

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking time to leave us a review, we're so glad you enjoyed your time with us and made the most of the glorious sunshine in Coed y brening and by the lake and hope to see you again very soon!

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
