  • Quiet site five miles from Edinburgh Airport
  • Shopping locally at Livingston Designer Outlet
  • Next to a country park and the Union Canal
East Calder is calling – and how easily accessible it all is. The county's Linwater Caravan Park is within a five-mile drive of Edinburgh Airport (nip up for the weekend, perhaps?) and is next to the trunk roads of the M8 and M9 – thus making it straightforward to stop over here on your way to and fro north or south. But you'd also be well placed to stay a bit longer. Linwater's in a countryside location, right next to Almondell and Calderwood Country Park and the Union Canal (for tiptop towpath strolls) and is also a short drive from the Pentland Hills Regional Park. The Edinburgh International Climbing Arena is only a mile away. All at Linwater is ably run by Katie and Alaistair, who've added a toilet block including a disabled loo, showers, a dishwashing area, laundry facilities and waste disposal for tourers and motorhomes.

What customers say

This site gets a thumbs-up for super-clean modern facilities, especially the loos. Staff are a friendly bunch, pitches are lekker big, and it's handily placed for exploring Edinburgh by park and ride. Communal kitchen's a bonus. A few mention plane noise and iffy Wi-Fi.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Spacious pitches screened by hedges, toilet and shower facilities were very clean and well maintained. Hot water was provided which was actually hot to enable washing up. Staff were very friendly and helpful with directions to the local park and ride location. Electric services were provided with plenty of water points available.

Disliked Wi fi was not available for the whole site, just by the reception area but this did not bother us.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Friendly staff, dealt with quickly and professionally upon arrival at reception with everything explained. Security barrier with code to come as go as you please is always a positive. Toilets and shower block modern and clean with private washing cubicles as well as showers with seating and hanging space. Well kept grounds and good level hardtanding pitches.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

I’ll return without hesitation.

Thank you.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Quiet, neat, tidy and well organised site. Very well laid out, great facilities and friendly staff. Pitches absolutely enormous and well kept: first campsite I've ever been to with both electricity AND water at every pitch. Absolutely nothing to complain about.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The friendly welcome, they took the time to help us when we were unsure about anything. The cleanliness of the whole park including the kitchen, the shower and toilet blocks. Rubbish bins replaced as soon as they were full. The location was ideal for us. the pitch size was excellent. Shower was as hot or as cold as one desired.

Disliked Not so much a dislike but I felt the shower duration for each push could have been longer, as a older person I am a bit slower washing myself and had to juggle with my wash items and the push button.

Local attractions

Linwater Caravan Park's locale means you're well set for both countryside and city days, or to break up a journey on your way north or south. Around the area, a mile away in a disused quarry is the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena, with the biggest indoor climbing wall in the world (well worth tackling for the boasting rights gained for afterwards, one might suggest). The towpath walks of the Union Canal are nearby and the shows and exhibitions of the Royal Highland Showground are within four miles. You can also easily drive to the Kelpies, the biggest horsey structures on the planet, and to the Falkirk Wheel, the boat lift connecting the Union and the Forth and Clyde canals.
